I am using herbal essence conditioner (in the blue bottle). Thanks BABE, your hair looks pretty fab from your avatar too!

On a good day, I''ve got some nice waves and an random ringlet thrown in there, but for the most part it''s just a meh wavy mess. Does that "wash with conditioner only" work for only truly curly hair?

I was going to ask the same thing. My hair has a mind of its own. Right after the shower, when it is wet/damp and drying it will get pretty wavy. But if I don''t wash my hair for a day, it will be pretty straight, with some odd waves/curls thrown in (but the waviness will return if I spray it damp again). I honestly don''t know what to do with it sometimes. For 25+ years my hair was straight, then *something* happened and I ended up with this wavy/not-quite-curly hair (my hairdresser said her hair changed after she was pregnant ... but I don''t have anything like that to explain my change).

Any way, curious if anyone has advice.

Me too! I have the same hair, some of it goes straight and some wavy...at the same time

Mine is totally thin (as in not lots of it) but not fine, I would say normal for strand thickness (pardon my terminology). I don''t have pregnancy to blame though, it''s just always been like this, it has been getting thinner with age though (unless I''m just more paranoid?)

My hairdresser said hormones can change your hair, and you don''t have to have been pregnant. Our hormones have a mind of their own, and can wreak havoc on all sorts of things.

Mine used to be wavy-almost curly, but not in a cute enough way to actually wear it curly unless it was having a VERY good day, so I always blew it out straight. Then I changed my BC pills to a different brand, and it lost it''s wave (I dunno if that''s the cause of the change, but both happened at the same time). It dries basically straight now (but still needs some straightening just to tame unruly strands.

MODIFIED CG FOR WAVIES:

The author concedes to the fact that some people may have to continue using shampoo (hopefully a lot less often than before) because of an oily scalp, this is usually more common in those with wavy hair. To avoid drying the hair, here's the CG way to use shampoo:

1) Wet hair under a gentle shower. 2) Take a tablespoon of CO and using your fingers, lightly coat your hair from the ends to the midshaft. This hair has been around longer than the hair at the roots and needs more lubrication. The CO protects the hair by not allowing shampoo to penetrate and dehydrate the shaft. 3) If you're using shampoo, squeeze a half teaspoon* (no more) onto your fingertips and apply it gently to the scalp and roots only. don't use your nails. Start at the forehead and work around the scalp, then rinse thoroughly. 4) Add a half teaspoon of CO to your hair and work it through with your fingers. Then rinse quickly, for just a few seconds. No you're ready to blot-dry your hair.

*Diluting this amount in an ounce of water or so makes it much easier to distribute and gentler to the scalp.

The past two days, I've "washed" with the Alberto V05 kiwi limi conditioner, so we'll see how this goes! I'm not anti-shampoo yet though, so I'll probably have to wash it like tomorrow or something until I can get this "no shampoo" thing. Mentally, it just feels wrong! We're also in the middle of a heat wave, so it'll be kind of hard to tell if it's a change in what I'm doing to my hair or a change in the weather though ...

Galateia kindly pointed me in this direction and I am going to try her CONDITION-WASH-CONDITION trick tomorrow.

My bff with curly hair uses kerstase, but she has uber curly hair..mine is fine, straightish, and wavy.

I think this next hair cut, I''ll get 1.5 inch cut off to clean up my ends, and talk to my stylist about how I can care for it. Its just past my brastrap now & I want to get it to my elbows...

are mason/pearson brushes worth it?

hmmm....me thinks i''m going to be ordering shampoo/cond. samples.. any good sites?

I switched to the John Frieda Frizz-ease line and I''m doing the conditioner-shampoo-conditioner trick, and it''s doing wonders! I''m using the anti-frizz serum as well. I''ll post pics soon if I have time.

Doesn''t it make a huge difference? Once I started using it I could actually brush my hair and have it stay untangled for longer than the time it took to lift the brush up to my head again!

Ahh, the joys of Scottish Hair. After I''ve showered every short piece of hair is trying to curl while the long hairs have the curl dragged out, so my guy endlessly amuses himself by repeatedly petting my ''halo''. The second day, though, it smooths out and has a wonderful glossy look and soft waves.

Can''t wait to see the pics.

I love frizz-ease serum, been using it for years, I use Biosilk on my ends on the second day just to keep it smooth (smells great too).

I think the Mason Pearson brushes are worth cost, especially with your long hair.
