I love Thanksgiving- it's one of my very favorite holidays and I was hoping some of you would share some of your day with us and some pictures as well if you have them...it can be of any Thanksgiving- I would just love hearing of some special memories you might have of that day!
I don't have any pics but I'll share a special Thanksgiving that my family had years ago. My mom keeps in touch with friends from college, who are married, let's call them J and E. When I was oh, maybe 12 or so, my family visited J's sister and her family in another state. Follow that? Anyway, J and her family are Italian and we had a huge Italian spread for Thanksgiving. My family had never seen anything like it. There were lots of people there laughing and talking loudly, and although my sister and I only knew J, E, and their 2 kids, we had so much fun.
We kept talking about how we wished we had a big family to celebrate holidays with. My family consists of my mom, dad, and sister, so it's fairly small. Although I have a larger extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, we didn't travel often for the holidays, so most years, our little family of 4 celebrated together. It was always very quiet, and it was nice to have a very different type of holiday.
Everyone was milling around, kids were playing, adults were chatting, there was tons of food, and it was just a very happy day. It's a special memory for me for many reasons, and one of them is that J and E's daughter is no longer alive. She passed away very suddenly 2 years ago, just a few days away from her 40th birthday.
Zoe, that's a wonderful memory! How much fun that must have been for you!
missy, I think for me this Thanksgiving was one of my favorites. My husband and I just purchased our first home in July and decided to celebrate the holiday, just the two of us, in our new home. DH did all the cooking (I'm still working on cleanup! ) and we just enjoyed the time together all day. It was fabulously relaxing (made working today hard, to be sure!) and it was just so nice to be home for the holiday!
Thanks for sharing! Zoe, that really is a lovely memory. So sad that she is gone and at such a young age.
vc10um- I love that you guys celebrated your first Thanksgiving in your new home just the two of you. So romantic! And congratulations on your home purchase!
I love every Thanksgiving. It's just such a nice holiday without the pressure of gifts and expectations. It doesn't hurt that I love the side dishes either haha but mainly I just love spending it with my family. We're a pretty small family too Zoe and now that my grandparents are gone (and have been a long while) we are even smaller. So I really cherish the time I have to spend with my parents as they are getting older too (my dad is 80) and I can't help but think my time is limited with them. I know, cheery thoughts right lol. But my point is that I try to make the most of each day I get to spend with them!
I'll post a pic from yesterday. Not the most flattering but it's hard to get my family altogether to pose so please excuse the less than perfect photo.
