Texting while Driving (GRAPHIC) PSA

Yes, graphic to look at, but will it do anything to curb this behavior? In Washington State (where I live), it's illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving, but people do it all the time. The only way a cop can pull a talking driver over is if they're speeding, have a tail light out, etc.

Teens are so stuck in the frame-of-mind that it won't happen to them. In fact, most adults are still stuck in that frame of mind.

I was driving on the freeway during rush hour and the car ahead of me was driving even slower than the rest and had probably 200 feet between her and the car in front of her. People kept pulling around and in front of her, but she kept driving like that for miles. Later, on an even busier freeway, she ended up behind me this time, again driving slower than the pace of traffic, swerving in and out of her lane, and again several hundred feet behind the car in front of her (which was me) so people kept going around her. The reason for her driving like that? I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the teen driver was busy texting. ON THE FREEWAY AT RUSH HOUR.

Wow. That sure makes the point. Shocking and scary!

Wow. Just wow. It''s so sad to think about how that really happened, and how that girl must feel for being the driver and also the only one to survive in her car.

I think they guy is totally right about how it''s "too graphic" to make it onto TV because people are in the mindset that that''s "disturbing" to let people see without warning them, but yet look at all the idiocracy that''s already on tv, and for some reason that''s ok for us to numb our minds with. He''s probably right - people will get complacent with it again.

Adults are just as bad- my Region Director tried to teach me how to email and drive... I''d be lying if I said I never did at a stop light, but in moving traffic- yikes!!!

I saw this on the Today Show this morning. While it may stop some teens and adults from texting while driving, there''s always those people who think it will never happen to them. I''m happy to say that I have no idea in the world how to send a text message and I don''t want to learn.

My kids would be confused by this. They''d see it on TV and I''d have to explain to them that it''s not real. But doing so would cause them to misunderstand the message that is trying to be convied because they''d then think texting while driving isn''t a danger.

I clicked on the ad while my son (9 in little over a month) and he ran from the room right after the commercial began. Actually, I kinda knudged him out, but he already had his eyes over his face.

I''m not sure when kids understand the true difference between real and acting.

I **WISH** that watching a graphic video would make people stop texting while driving. And, adults are DEFINITELY as bad as kids.

My husband and ALL of his co-workers are CONSTANTLY texting each other...I keep telling my DH to be careful, he KNOWS he shouldn't text while driving, but he still does it...

And you know what, even though compared to him, I do it 1,000 times LESS, there's been times I've done it too...in the moment, you totally rationalize it - "oh just this one time" "there isn't a lot of traffic" "I really should get back to this person" and on and on with the excuses.

That said, I think it's still worth showing it to people...if it makes you think twice at least some of time, it's worth it. I know I'm going to show it to my husband...

Perhaps they should show it in schools at a certain age - ie 16/17

We were shown lots of videos at school at the ''right'' age - ie ''Safety on Farms'' with 6 kids aged about 8 or 9 and one by one they all die in different accidents. I''ve never forgotten it, or they advice they gave on what to do in each situation to get help.

I couldnt finish the video! It brought back the details of my car wreak several months ago.The part in the video where the bus driver runs a light while texting is all to familiar...The young man who hit me was texting and ran a red light ,hitting me and sending me into the moving van in front of me.Texting should be outlawed in all states.

It''s illegal in Australia, talking or texting on a mobile phone. And they do enforce it, if a cop sees you with a phone in your hand while behind the wheel, they will pull you over. I have quite a few friends who have been ticketed for this.

Speechless..showed it to DH, too. I think it''s very effective if people take it seriously.

Here''s the whole video.. PSA for texting while driving..

Its far more powerful seeing the whole thing. They should have this in the US.
I just showed this version to my 15 year old son earlier today. He was riding his bike a few months ago, and narrowly avoided being hit by a young woman who was texting, and had no clue he was even beside her on his bike. I also sent a copy to my nieces who are 15 and 17. It is not just teenagers that are doing this!!

I have seen adults do it too.

I was on a school field trip to the zoo back in June... It was a very rainy day and the bus windows were COMPLETELY fogged up. The driver was TEXTING the whole way there! I was literally praying to god to keep us safe. I was terrified and appalled at the same time. How dare she!!! I forgot to get the bus number when we got back, or I would have reported her butt to her boss!

I think every car should have an RF jamming device that prevents the cellphone/texting signal from working when the car is moving.

I'm sick of MY life being put at risk every day by these morons.

Um, I would have gone up to her, politely reminded her it is illegal and asked her if she wanted to get in a crash and kill everyone. Your life is worth that, no?

I was in a car accident caused by a teen texting almost 7 years ago. Needless to say, my phone stays in my purse 100% of the time when I''m driving, whether it''s ringing or not. I wish others would afford me the same courtesy.

The crash scene reminded me of something you''d see in one of those Final Destination movies. Scary.

I think that with the modern advancements in bluetooth there is really no need to even have your phone out of your purse/pocket while driving.

Ditto. No way that would be okay with me.

This video has made the rounds on facebook and many of my friends and acquaintances are saying they''ll never text again. They are sharing stories about how they''ve accidentally swerved into another lane, or how they''ve had to slam on the breaks--sometimes with their KIDS IN THE CAR. Let me just say I didn''t realize I knew so many idiots.

I just can''t wrap my head around people who think that it''s a good idea to type a fricken message rather than look at the road. I have a feeling I would react very badly if I was involved in an accident and I found out the other person was texting--and I don''t consider myself a violent person.

I do hope texting is just a phase. I am hoping that voice technology becomes the new thing real soon--so at least these people will be looking at the da*n road while they''re distracted. Until then, it would be cool if texting would automatically lock up if you''re going over 5 mph. But that would suck if you''re a passenger.

My small town is grieving the loss of a beautiful 15 year old girl who was killed on Monday evening while crossing the street in a crosswalk.

The driver of the car is a teenage boy who they say was texting at the time.

I am at a loss for words right now.

Wow, I just watched the full version. I didn't realize all they'd edited out, like hearing the girl's neck breaking in the first one... made me shudder to hear that.

Thank you for this thread. I don''t think I will stop bumping it to the top. Everyone should see the entire unedited video. I''m grateful that a police department had the quevos to create the video. It may be a dramatization, but to those who have been victims or families of victims...it is very real.

We have a lot of this 'shock factor' media going on right now. Don't drink and drive... watch out for motorcycles, and now the texting while driving video. I really hope it works. Our roads need to become safer.

I need hubby to see this...

I pray this video hits home.

I''m ashamed to admit I used to talk, text, and even check the internet while driving. I don''t anymore now that I have my daughter and I''m amazed how much more alert I am on the roads. I used to think I could handle doing it all while driving but it really was a major distraction.
