There were at least two major explosions in subway stations in Moscow during rush hour this morning, set off by female suicide bombers. Dozens of people have been killed. To read more, click on this article in, "The New York Times".

Yes, I read about this this morning, what an terrible thing, just imagine the panic and fright of those people on the trains, just awful.

i''ve been following this all morning - so so so tragic and horrible...

How terrifying!! My thoughts and prayers to all who may be affected. I hope there are no more!!

My heart is breaking today. Moscow is my hometown. My family still lives there and my dad passes one of the stations every morning on his way to work. He wasn''t there today, but I haven''t heard from any of my friends yet. I''m praying that none of them or their family members have been hurt.

Tragic...

How tragic and sad.

"Park kultury", one of the two stations that had been bombed, " is my station - I used to live close to it. I am reading the lists of people who were killed - many of them were young, in their 20-es or 30-es. Some are 17. Some of them are so disfugured they can not identify the corpses.

The government was sitting on the information about the bombings for several hours. There were shows, news, talk shows on TV... and only in several hours the information was released. I can not understand why.

They could not have chosed a better time - Monday, moring rush hour. Both of the stations are large and serve a huge amount of people.
Despite abundance of cars, many Muscovites choose subway to travel to work because morning and evening traffic jams are disastrous.

crasru-I am sorry that this tragedy struck so close to you. I did not even realize that you lived in Russia. I knew from other threads that you were a physician (and that you loved Anthony Quinn in, "La Strada"), but I had no idea where you hailed from! I hope that conditions improve in Moscow, but I am pessimistic. This situation is not new; it is a repetition of an attempt by terrorists to bring the war in Chechnya "home" to Russia that was wildly successful (from the terrorists' point of view) a few years ago.

I wish you healing.

I used to live in Moscow. Now in am in Seattle, WA, but my father and many family members live in Moscow. I am flying out there next Monday. One of the bombings was very close to my home, but it is beyond the point. It is just scary that terror may hit anywhere, at any time. As any big city, Moscow is not too well-organized so any terrorist act may potentially involve more people than in smaller towns.

Thank you for your kind words.
