Hi everyone! I''m sure this topic has been rehashed here many times, but I''d like to know what music you''re using for "special" dances at your wedding. Let''s start with the following, but feel free to add any other special dances/events at your wedding for which you require specific music :).

1. First dance
2. Mother/Son
3. Father/Daughter
4. Last dance
5. Other
I''ll start
1. Endless Love - Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross
2. ?
3. Most likely Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof
4. ?

1. First dance - "turn me on" Norah Jones - I just love it! and it fits with our love actuall song them since i am walking down the aisle to the "Gasglow love theme" and our processional is "PMs love theme".
2. Mother/Son - He doesnt know yet. I recommended his moms favorite song but i dont think he things he can dance to it.
3. Father/Daughter - "Ue o Muite" by Kyo Sakumoto - I am not Japanese however this song has great significance for me and my step father
4. Last dance - thinking "New England" by Jonathan Richmond (not a good version). It has sentimental value for both of us and lists a few of the places where we have lived.
5. Cake Cutting song - not sure since our guy told us we should have two songs. I love the "when Im 64" song by the beatles so this looks as good as any place to stick in in there. Maybe a typica song like "how sweet it is" or "sugar sugar"

We're in the very beginning process of planning but I'd love to play along. Maybe in 8 months I can look back on this thread and see if I have changed my mind

1. First Dance - Theme to Midnight Cowboy - Faith No More
2. Mother/Son - Unchained Melody
3. Father/Daughter - Across the Universe - The Beatles (this is the one song which is VERY undecided)
4. Last Dance - At Last - Etta James
5. At some point I'd really like to have my bridal party try to pull off the Thriller Dance (al la Rock the Reception) but I'm not sure if they will go for it.

ETA - our entrance song is probably going to be "We're In This Together" - Nine Inch Nails (just the chorus) - we're a WEIRD couple! The lyrics to the song are so fitting. We're thinking of putting a copy of them on each table so people who can not get past the type of music it is can try and appreciate why we chose that song.

1. first dance: "Coffee" by copeland
Coffee

2. not sure yet!

3. father/daughter: something about a wish by rascal flatts (a pretty standard selection, but a special request by my dad
1.gif
cheesetastic!

4. last dance: i can't help falling in love with you by Elvis

5. other:
cake cutting: "meant for each other" by the februarys (it's a duet on the album)
horrible recording of the song
-we're having both sets of my parents wedding songs played for slow songs during the reception.
-we're being introduced to "hey ya" by outkast (stefan's pick!)

our ceremony music includes...
processional 1: an instrumental version of This Road by jars of clay
my processional: Hymn by jars of clay (as recorded)

Be Thou My Vision played live by our friends
Greensleeves on the organ during the unity candle
then Ode to Joy for the recessional

I can''t answer most of this yet because I haven''t really thought of it ... and I''m not even sure we''ll do the mother/son and father/daughter dances; we''ll see about those. But for our first dance, I want "I''m Beginning to See the Light." I love the Sinatra version and I''ve heard it on Pandora, but I can''t find it on any album ... tricky. I''ll keep looking. But that song is dependent on us taking dance lessons because there''s no way we could pull it off otherwise! If we don''t take lessons, we''ll have to pick out something slower that we can sway to, because that''s the extent of our dancing abilities right now.

I''m most excited about the string quartet I just booked for the ceremony and cocktail hour. I played the cello for 10 years so I''m really excited to include some of my favorite classical pieces in our special day. The group is even going to help me find arrangements of more traditional songs that let the cello carry the melody. No offense to anyone who likes the traditional Pachalbel Canon, but when you''ve played the boring (really boring) cello part for that a million times in school orchestras, you never want to hear it again

Elrohwen, Sinatra has that tune on "Sinatra and Swingin'' Brass". You can get it on Amazon.

Father/Bride Dance: "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler
Mother/Groom Dance: "Close to You" by the Carpenters

I love that song

it really reminds us of Hawai''i, Fi is 1/4 Hawaiian and his father grew up there, the islands have become very special for our ''family.'' So that and the Iz song are very special to us for the wedding

Musey -Wow, we have very similar tastes in music. We are also playing Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World (Israel Kamakawiwo''ole) as I walk down the aisle. Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles will be played beforehand, and the processional will be God Only Knows.

Reception Music (well, just the slow ones)

The Luckiest (Ben Folds) I think this my be our first dance song!
Sea of Love (Cat Powers) I love this song, but once again, don''t know how well the Cat Powers version will translate with a band
Songbird (Eva Cassidy) I originally wanted this as our first dance song, but I love the Eva Cassidy version, and we''re having a band. I''m too worried it''s going to sound like Fleetwood Mac.
I''m Yours (Jason Mraz) This is the other first dance possibility, but it''s a little fast
Better Togeather (Jack Johnson)
Otis Redding (These Arms of Mine)
Cake Cutting - I Wanna Grow Old With You (Adam Sandler)
Father/Daughter Daughter (Loudoun Wainwright III)

Ladypirate, you are awesome! I did some Amazon searching a little while back and couldn''t find it, so I''m super excited you were able to find it for me.

I''m off to buy the cd for our first dance!

TOO WEIRD! What are the chances?!

Most of them are not even that commonly used. It's not like we're both using At Last and Unforgettable. How strange!

Oop, I forgot all about the cake cutting.

"How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" by Return 2 Zero (a cappela group that did a cover of the song)

I considered both over the rainbow by Israel and here comes the sun for my walk down the aisle song too, small world. I guess the times, they are a changing!
