We are getting all new appliances, but we are predominantly concerned with the dishwasher. We want it to look nice, but more importantly we want it to function well, clean dishes and be quiet and awesome. What kind do you have? Do you like it? What kind would you have if you could have any dishwasher you wanted?? TIA.

HI:

It was a toss up between a Bosch and a Miele--our plumbing did not support the latter so we bought the Bosch. Excellent quality, love the product.

cheers--Sharon

I have a Kitchenaide here, and a Bosch at our other vacation house. The Bosch I don't love. It leaves dishes wet, takes long to run but will say it's quiet. My kitchenaide is 12 years old and does a great job. The racks are strudy whereas the Bosh ones come apart and drives me nuts. We have a cheapo one in FLA and will replace that as it's soooo noisy, I think it's a GE...Husband picked it out, big mistake, LOL... We run it only when we are leaving the house for a while..

My dishwasher was free.
It uses no electricity.
Using it takes about the same time as rinsing, loading and unloading a machine, plus no waiting while the machine works.
No bending over to load and unload.
No noise to be bothered by.
Greener, since it is not a big heavy manufactured product made of a zillion parts from factories that a bunch of people had to drive to.
No big diesel exhaust-belching truck had to deliver it.
No service calls, ever.
Lasts on average 77.6 years, in the US.
The washing liquid is not a harsh chemical.
No additional expensive rinsing agent is needed.
It gives me a bit of badly-needed exercise doing the work myself.
It never malfunctions or floods/ruins the floor.
Takes up zero precious kitchen space.

ours is a 25 yrs old virgin.we hand wash all of our dishes.

Haha, Kenny, you always manage to crack me up. Yeah, we have hand-washed for the past five years as we've been in rentals and now that we're buying our own home and baby on the way, we have decided it is time to get a dishwasher. We work very hard to be green in other ways, and while that is no excuse, we shall compromise on this one and go the less green route.

Thanks, canuk and kaleigh. (DF, did you say you're a virgin!?)

We have a Kitchenaid right now. It's quiet and it gets the dishes clean under all circumstances. I wouldn't choose a different one. Those two qualifiers are exactly what we wanted. The only thing that bugs me is that of all our stainless appliances, the dishwasher is the hardest to keep looking clean! I would love it more if it were somehow faced with cabinet material. ;))

We went with LG when we replaced all our appliances last year.... Love them all including the dishwasher... Controls are up on the top of the door so the front is plain which I liked... But I think many are that way now.... We looked at the double drawers...but felt it compromised the amount of total space.

We also got a stainless steel kitchenaid (architect II) series. I don't remember the price, but it has a lot features, it's energy efficient, including a slideout rack especially designed for knives and small items like chopsticks, so that they can lay flat, and not fall through the utensil basket, and get damaged. It also has the whisper quiet feature. We cannot tell when it is on or off. Completely noise free. There's a delayed start feature too. We love it.

we have a bosch and i don't love it for the reasons kaleigh stated - leaves dishes wet, takes a long time, and every single time i load i have to pop the dividers back into place at least once, sometimes more as they keep popping out while i load (sooo aggravating).

i don't feel it is set up to maximize loading efficiency, either. i think i was able to get many more dishes into the one that came with the house and was 10 years old (i don't recall the brand). it was quiet until we had a snafu and had to have it 'looked at', now it makes noise at the beginning of the cycle. oh, and it doesn't have a food grinder which i wish it did.

We had an LG and loved it until it broke, flooded out kitchen. :nono: Check out consumer reports; they don't recommend LG's since there were soooo many customer complaints on Dishwashers and fridges. We have a Bosch now.

I have a GE and am happy with it. It cleans really well but is a bit loud. My parents have a kitchen aid and you barely have to rinse the dishes before putting them in.

:errrr: :errrr: :errrr: ;( ;( :nono: :o how the heck did my OCD Architect husband miss that.??? We have wood floors! I'll start praying now! We've had it for about 8 months... We replaced a Whirlpool Gold when I got hacked at them over my oven that died twice in 12 months and it cost us over $800 to fix it the first time. Less than 12 months later it happened again they told me too bad. Skippy I'm not gonna sleep now!!

Ditto with ours! We spent 12 months fighting with LG to cover several repairs due to ours leaking. In fact we just got a letter from the repair company that LG still hasn't paid them for the last bill and they are going to stick to US if LG doesn't pay up soon! Will never get another LG product again. Look at Youtube. So many LG dishwasher videos showing how defective they are.

We have a Blomberg and LOVE it!

It is stainless exterior AND interior. Upper rack is adjustable (just hold a buttun to raise/lower) even when loaded with dishes. Cleans pots & pans great but also does wonderfully with our crystal. Both upper and lower racks have water spraying from top and bottom. I'm able to fit 16 wine glasses in the top rack very comfortably. The people we have used to service it do wonderful work and parts aren't too bad to get if we need them. It has been going for 2+ years and is still running great (we're extremely tough on dishwashers and went through two others in less than 2 years before we got this one).

One of the best things about it is how quiet it is. The kitchen door leads right into the living room and I've still had to get up and go look to see if it was still running.

We got ours on sale at a builder's supply place for $300 (usually closer to $1400).

We have a Miele and it's about 4 - 5 years old. Still quiet and we have a fairly open concept home - we can turn it on and sit and talk or watch TV and not be bothered by it at all. I love the cool top rack that is about 2" deep and it's for cutlery. this allows more dishes/glasses/pots in the main area. You can stack a lot in it and always gets the dishes clean.

Down side for us is we are on a well, so we have hard water. It's our fault if things are spotty because we haven't put new salt in the softener.

I'd buy another Miele again.

It is white and loud! I hate it. We're renting so I never bothered to look and see who it's made by. I think I'd rather have a d/w that does a so-so job at cleaning dishes than one that makes tons of racket.

We had a Bosch and hated it! We are the type of people that open a dishwasher after it's started to get "one more fork" or "where's that spoon?" Turns out Bosches (Boshei?) hate that. The timer started going wonky, it skipped around in the cycles, and repairing was $500. We dumped that sucker. It was quiet, but it turns out that was because it wasn't working half the time. It took about 5 years for these issues to show up.

Then we got a kitchenaid, and it's in year 5 and we just had the control board replaced because the buttons (tucked into top part of washer) stopped working. It was $250 to repair.

I miss the old GE that we had; lasted 10+ years, it's probably still working but we sold that house, so I don't know. It was noisy, but fast and EVERYTHING came out CLEAN no matter what I put in there.

Miele Optima. Really like it for all the reasons posted by Enerchi. It could dry better - but I think that's an issue I could fix with a hotter water temp maybe. It's also very water efficient, I almost always use the efficient cycle and things get very clean. I also make my own dishwasher detergent now and it works fine (a recipe I found on the internet).
