The sweet: I took my mom to see the venue that we fell in love with and she loved it too. It’s so different from what we are used to and just screams intimate. I was so sure that she would find at least one thing wrong with it but she loved everything about it (she even loved their bathrooms!).

The bitter: We’re still stressing over the guest list…not just the amount of people that can be invited but also the issue of kids. My mom (along with the venue coordinators) strongly feels that weddings are not for children. (Side note: growing up my parents never took my brothers and I to a wedding or anniversary party.) So, she doesn’t want me to invite any children at all. As for teens, she thinks only those over 18 but I brought her down to at least 12. I feel the same way as she does but I know it’s a sensitive issue and I really don’t want to ruffle any feathers. We also still have a list of over 100 and need to bring it down to 75 which is what we can afford.

The sweet again: If we do go forward with this wedding, this will definitely be our venue. And the most important thing is that we have the full support of our parents. So if we don’t invite children and everyone has a hissy fit over it, I know they’ll back us up.

Here are some pics...the first is what guest see when they come in. The palm trees in the house are the tallest in the area and you can see them 2 streets away.

This is what the "bride" sees as she''s walking out to the ceremony. The gazebo on the left is where the groom stays with his guys. It has full AC and a flat screen (with a minibar to calm the nerves lol)

This is the view from where the ceremony takes place to the house. You can see the massive storm sneaking up on us (gotta love florida, one minute blue skies the next hurricane force winds

This is a better shot of the pool with the tent behind.

As for the decision to have children or not, think about their safety. Any under 10 should not be there because of the pool, and it''s hard to look after a child each and every second at a big event.
Based on the feel of your venue, I think you should only invite kids over 18. It''ll work best for your budget too.

Oh wow, I''m in

with your venue!!

I concur with kama on the age of the children to invite. 18+ sounds like a good cut-off.

Than you ladies! I love it too. I was actually thinking about using the pool as an excuse for not having children. It really doews worry me that parents can be dancing/drinking and not realize that a little one is too close to the pool.

They did mention that we can hire a babysitter and they''ll set up the gazebo with some movies for the kids to watch (no extra charge from the venue). But as soon as he said that I thought, ok this is a wedding reception not a birthday party or sleep over.

Plus while they''re affordable, its $33.50 for some chicken fingers and fries for kids. That''s a lot for fries and chicken fingers.

Love the venue!!

ETA: Sorry about the guest list/number troubles.
