Hi all! I don''t usually post in BIW, in fact I''ve been offline for what seems like forever now, lol! Anyway, good friends of mine and DH are getting married in May ''09 and I just received a bridal shower invitation that I''m a little confused about and thought you all might be able to help.

The shower is a surprise and is going to be held late September on a Saturday. I always thought that showers were usually held a month or two before the actual wedding. Has that changed or was this never the case?? I guess it really doesn''t make a difference to me I was just curious I guess. It''s been a while since my bridal shower, lol!

Also, It doesn''t look as though they''ve registered anywhere so I am assuming that she (and he) would prefer cash for the shower, which makes sense because I know that they are trying to save for the wedding and buy a house as well, but I also got a separate invitation for something called a "Happiness Breakfast." It says to bring something silly to put into their shopping cart.

That''s not something that I have ever heard of. Have any of you ever done this or something similar? Any suggestions on something silly?!! I would kind of like to get her something special that she could have for her home though since I know we will be giving cash for the wedding too... Should I do that for the silly cart or keep that fun and give her something special for her shower OR just stick with money? That just got confusing, lol!

Happiness breakfast....I am stumped on that one....I am thinking it is maybe a breakast where they will have a wishing well? In that case, I would give something silly. I think usually it is household items. Maybe a spice rack or something like that?
About the shower, yes I think it is supposed to be just prior to the wedding. If she is not registered, I guess cash would work altough usually etiquette would be gifts. I might give a small gift with money in the card. For a small engagment gift a girlfriend bought me a waterford crystal ring dish, at first I was like hhhmmm......But I use it everyday and love it! It stays right by the sink in the kitchen so I don''t go crazy worrying about the ring fallind down the drain.

That''s what I always thought.

The invitation says that there will be a "shopping cart." I''m sorta wondering if they are doing this to deter guests from buying actual gifts.

I love the story of your ring dish!! What a sweet and thoughtful gift! I have lots of things from my shower/wedding that mean so much to me. I received a teapot from my Aunt that was apart of my china collection that I didn''t register for (who needs a $$$ teapot!!) but that she wanted me to have. At first I was also like... why would anyone spend so much money on a teapot!! But now I look at it and know that someone just wanted me to have something special from them. It is my absolute favorite piece that I own.

Even though I have yet to use it for fear of breaking it!!

Thanks for chiming in.

The teapot!!! LOL..... I didn''t register for a teapot either because I had the same thought. Seriously, $300 for a teapot???? That is crazy, it is the same as 2 place settings. However, I would love to have it if someone suprised me.

How sweet.
