Suggestions on where to have rings serviced?

Hi Fellow PSers,

Like many of you, I purchased my rings from non local jewelers. I wanted to know when it was time for cleaning, polishing, etc....did you have the service performed by a local shop or did you send it back to the original jeweler? I ask because I've read a couple of horror stories where the local shop swapped their stones. I'm in Atlanta, GA and I have no idea where I should take my rings. Thanks in advance!

I haven't experienced any stone swapping. I just experience HORRIBLE bench jewelers pretty much the majority of the time I go local. lol For cleaning and polishing you're not exactly leaving it there long enough for them to spend the time and effort for a stone swap. Resizings and stuff I almost always send it back to the maker.

Ideally, I would send it back to the vendor who made your ring originally. It may void your warranty if you have anyone else work on it. O/w, you could ask Yennyfire since she's in the ATL also. Glad to see that there are other PS'ers in the area!

I want to send it back to the original jeweler but everything with them is slow. I was thinking about taking it Tiffany. They seem less likely to do anything shady. That assumption could be wrong....

Ame, what's the normal turn around for cleaning and polishing?

Mom2Boys, are you in Atlanta? I'll have to look up yennyfire.

If it's not done on the spot, it's not acceptable. It should take like 5 minutes.

My rings are platinum and I thought I read it takes them a while to polish. I wouldn't have a clue as to how long it takes....

As are mine. Again, 5 minutes tops.

That's great....I was afraid I had to leave for a day. Then, I'll take it to one of the larger known jewelers in town. Thanks Ame!

Yea I would and have never left a ring for polishing and cleaning, ever. If it's not done on the spot right then, I find another shop.

I researched local jewelers and I came across one that had high customer ratings. I decided to check him out. He was awesome. It took him about 10 min and he only charged 10 bucks. (Granted, my ring only had surface scratches. He said if I had deep scratches, it would take longer to remove.) He creates a lot of his own pieces but does carry a couple of designer rings as well. He had some unique settings. I almost wish I found him when I was building my 3 stone. Anyway, I say all this for anyone looking for a good jeweler with great customer service in the Atlanta area.
