Stay at home moms or work at home and retired people

It's funny to see others mention it, but I too won't leave home without diamond rings no matter how poorly I'm dressed! It's weird. I feel naked without a wedding set (I have 2, one stays in the safe though). At home, I wear a stack of silver rings, or a gold band just because my finger feels naked with nothing. Lol.:lol-2:

I wear my studs usually but thats also an every day thing. sometimes I get fancy and wear studs and a ring!:lol-2:

I work from home the majority of the time and always wear something in a comfy fabric like sweats and soft top. My favorites right now are sweats from Costco and casual knit tops from Maurice’s, lol. I should really put more effort in to my work from home look... When I do put on “real pants” I can’t believe how uncomfortable they feel and can’t wait to get back in to my sweats! Most days I wear a colored stone ring so I can look at it to brighten my mood when doing computer work =)2

For me it is all about closet organization. I have all my “cute / nice” stuff together so that when I do feel like wearing something better than shorts and a Tee it is all located together and I know I have options. Also, I do not wear sneakers out unless I am really walking. Invest in some cute and comfortable shoes as those will always make your casual clothes look a little better.

Dresses, dresses, dresses. (Preferably non dry-clean and with pockets) ... looks cute, is comfy and takes less time than coordinating a top and bottom. I pair the long sleeved ones with tights , boots ( often uggs ) , cashmere scarves and cardis in winter. COS ist perfect for my lifestyle (lots of pockets, good fabrics, clean lines, mostly washable fabrics) https://www.cosstores.com

I am retired and loving it. I haven't changed anything in my wardrobe in the home or out. For going out (running errands, taking a walk, meeting friends etc) I wear my usual. In the warmer weather easy peasy sundresses and sandals. In the cooler weather leggings, dresses and OTK boots. The "missy" uniform so to speak. I love dresses and find them super comfy with leggings and boots in winter and bare legs and sandals in summer.

At home I wear what I always wore in the past. No changes there either. Shorts and tees or cotton sundresses in the summer and yoga pants and shirts in the colder weather. But to go outside the home I always change as the casual wear indoors is kitty hair friendly but not something I would be comfortable wearing in public.

My style (to me) is casual though I suspect those of you on the west coast (and beyond) might think I am more formal in dress compared to the relaxed easy west coast vibe. I am a New Yorker after all. But to me this is comfortable and easy.

I dress for comfort. Maxi dresses I can nurse in, knee-length and longer skirts + tees, leggings + tees, lounge pants. No jeans. But I've been doing it almost 14 years, so I have my routine set. It really depends on my mood and season, really. There have been times I "dressed up" in a casual way, but that was when I didn't have an infant and my youngest at the time was preschool age. At this point, I like simple and comfortable.

I hate dressing in the summer, because it’s so hot and humid here and I can’t stand anything on my legs. This summer I was mostly in Nike running shorts and inexpensive tanks every day, with the occasional t-shirt dress if I’m driving my kids around town.

I make more of an effort in the fall/winter. I typically wear jeans or wool trousers, with a t-shirt or a silk blouse, and a wool blazer. That’s my uniform. I buy mostly pieces in solid colors that I can match in a myriad of ways.

I’ve recently been reading about capsule wardrobes and the decline in clothing quality, and how to find basics that last and don’t look frumpy. I was finding that most t-shirts are being made so thin, that holes inevitably appear within a couple of washes, and was getting tired of throwing money away at t-shirts and tank tops all the time.

So I found these awesome t-shirts (the u-neck women’s t-shirts) from Uniqlo. They are 100% thick cotton and wash really well and drape nicely on the body. The fabric makes them look more substantial and dressy than other t-shirts I’ve bought in the past.

I also buy $25 Levi’s from the boys dept because they are made of better denim quality than women’s jeans.

When I’m home I’m usually in my husband’s t-shirts and shorts.

I mostly wear either capri pants in the summer or long jeans in the winter. Once or twice a year I will order twenty or so tops from Macy's or JcPenny of varying degrees of dressiness. The casual ones, I wear out shopping (last years become my around the house tops), the dressier ones I wear when we go out or maybe to church on sunday. None are super dressy, but some are a little more than others. I do have a couple pairs of dressier pants, black jeans or one pair of wool trousers. That is what I wear when we are at the dressier events like a christmas party or out with friends. I don't often wear dresses. When I was younger and worked at a credit union I always had to wear dresses or suits and even to church in those days you rarely wore pants (early 80's). I am so glad that has changed, but I still find I don't want to wear dresses too much.
I do like J Jill as well and once in a while I order a top from Soft Surroundings. But mostly I stick with Macy's or JC Pennys. I can usually find quite a few things I can order at a time and they have pretty good sales so I rarely have to spend more than $40 and often less than $20 per top. I find I always get little holes in my shirts from the little piece that sticks out under the button of my jeans. So aggravating. When I have repaired the holes once or twice, then I just throw them away. Pull on pants few too old lady to me. I am getting to close to it so I refuse to wear pull on pants.

I work from home, doing trading/ investing and my "uniform" is a spaghetti-strap t-shirt and ...ahem...usually panties or if not then shorts. When I go out, I usually wear t-shirts and shorts or yoga pants, unless I am attending an event or going out for dinner or lunch with friends in which case I'll wear a nice dress. It's been several years since I wore a business suit and I expect I'd find it super uncomfy now.

I almost always wear my studs, be it at home or outside. Of course, more bling is added on when I am out - what exactly and how much depending on the occasion.

Okay, I have to admit your at home dress is what I do many days. Just got out of the Fred Meyer with anithan spaghetti strap tank actually. (I went in to buy at food...)

I feel so sloppy all of the time. You might be on to a little something. I don’t think anyone is jealous of my $2.50 old navy flip flops that I wear most days.

You sound sooo much like me! The only thing I'd add is that I have discovered Chico's, and they have good sales continually, and I like that I can easily find coordinates for an outfit for my "going somewhere" wardrobe (I'll buy a couple new outfits each season, usually)! lol! Church here is far more casual than it used to be, too. I never wear dresses. I had one dress to wear to weddings, and I couldn't find it last month when I needed it, so I think I left it in a hotel at a previous one! I just care about being comfortable and I just don't value high end clothing. Quality, yes, but not too pricey.

@diamondseeker2006, the last time I wore a dress was my daughters last wedding three years ago! Now, I just wear pants. I always have a few lace tops that are dressy, so I just pair that with my dressiest trousers and I am good to go. We had a outdoor casual venue that we attended and I wore my black jeans with boots and a cream lace top and I was actually one of the dressier people there!

I will have to check again at Chico's. The one time I went in there I could not find one thing I even wanted to try on. Maybe I just hit it between a season or something.

I am so glad the days of dresses are over! Now at least you have a choice. When I was in high school I had to wear dresses or skirts to school. About half way through they started having pants days but no jeans! It was a private school so public was a little more lenient, but gee that seems nuts now. Although, there are times when I see how the girls are dressed at school, I think a dress code might not be a bad idea. I just feel like such a old person when I even think that so I just keep my mouth shut!

Hmmmmm Chico's. I will check them out!

I can't remember the last time I wore a dress honestly. I hate them with a big firey passion. (I always have, my mom had fights getting me to wear the things) I asked my husband when was the last time I wore a dress. he said "1998". Which is probably true:lol-2:

@luv2sparkle and @Arcadian I should say that Chico's gets in new things all the time, so there definitely have been times I have found nothing I liked! I only go when they have 25-40% off, because the items are priced high so they can put them on sale, I think! They really cater to the over 40s age range, which you can tell by the models they use. But the good thing is that most of the clothes are really comfortable, and I like that!

I think our daughter will be getting married in the next year to year and a half, and I kind of dread having to find a dress for that!

What do you wear on a daily basis? I see all of these super adorable blouses and dresses but they seem over the top for my stay at home mom life. The thing is, I feel frumpy wearing denim Bermuda shorts and a t-shirt or tank-top everyday. Have any of you mastered feeling great in your clothes even though they are casual? If so, how do you do it? What do you wear and where do you shop?

I've worked from home for 13 years and always try to dress casual-nice, meaning, beyond frumpy sweats, but not exactly in a blazer. I put on full makeup, do my hair and pretend that at any moment I can go into the wild and be social ;)
