We have a historic house we Airbnb. I decided to paint the hardwood floors on the second level instead of paying to have them refinished. EVERYONE that heard I was planning on doing that told me not to, including the salespeople at the paint store. I did it anyway and guests love it! They write sweet things in our guestbook about how charming it is. We have another building I've painted purple. You should have seen the faces when I told people I was going to do that. But it is gorgeous. The neighbor next door afterward came to me and asked if I would help them pick colors for their house saying they now trust my eye even though they were scared when I first told them, lol.

You can't be great and stand out by going with the crowd.
