How do you handle cooking at home when one person likes spicy food and the other doesn''t?

I love spicy food, it doesn''t matter what kind, but my FI prefers mild flavors. I''m just trying to figure out how others handle this situation. I cook quite a bit more than she does (yes, the man cooks in our relationship) and we are going to have to find a balance. Sure it is possible with some dishes to add spices to the individual servings, but it never gives the same complexity of flavors as cooking peppers into the dish from the beginning.

Any of you that have the same dilemma, I''d love to know how you handle it.

(How disappointed is DF going to be when he reads the subject and clicks to find a cooking discussion?)

It wasn't only DF that was disappointed.......

hmmm cooking didn't even cross my mind at all...but I am not the cook in our house

ahhh my typeos!!!

ETA : when I was younger and still at home, my mom would cook without the spicy part, however before she finished cooking, she would dish out what would be mine, then she adds the rest of the spices to the dish still on the stove... does that make sense,, what I see in my head may not come out when I type..
