I know I don''t post often, but over the weekend my SO''s Mom came to visit and meet my parents and then we all went to attend his oldest brother''s wedding. I''m back from the wedding in NJ, and I am BEAT! It went really well, and here are some of the details (warning it''s long, feel free to skim)...
Al''s Mom flew in to town from TX on Wednesday afternoon. Al took her around town and showed her our apartment. Later they came to my parents house for dinner and everyone got along really great.
Thursday we drove to NJ, and we met up with SO''s brother and sister-in-law who are currently living in Germany. I''ve met his brother before, but haven''t met his wife who is five months pregnant. She was awesome and very nice and I think we got a long great. When the guys grouped up and took the groom (SO''s brother) out for some drinks (go-go girls included.) I just hung out with his Mom in the hotel room drinking a bottle of wine.
Friday was the rehearsal and dinner. The dinner and it was soooo much food, like 7 courses! The food was really great, but just a lot. The couple gave everyone there a little sample of the favors for the wedding which was a speciality labled bottled water and candy from the candy bar that they were going to have at the reception. There wasn''t any speeches or anything, just dinner. After we got back a bunch of us went out for some drinks, including the Al''s brother (the groom,) his sister and brother-in-law, his other brother and his wife, and Dad. The girls and myself got tired and headed back early while the guys stayed for a few more drinks.
Saturday was the wedding and Al needed to meet up with the wedding party about three hours before the wedding for pictures with the wedding party since he was a groomsman. Later I drove his Mom and Dad to the wedding location for pictures with the family. There was a lot of standing around because they had told us to come eariler than we needed to be there and we didn''t know what to do with outselves. We were taking some pictures of our own and his family had me get in some family pictures which I insisted was not necessary, but they really insisted that I be in. Even for the professional picture with the family they insisted I get in on it, but the photographer insisted that I didn''t, which I agreed with, obviously I''m not family quite yet.
The wedding was suppose to take place outside, but it rained all day, so they did it inside after a lot of standing around figuring out what to do. The wedding ceremony only took 17 minutes and included some sand ceremony thing which I''m not to fond of. The bride barely smilied before the ceremony and during, including walking down the aisle. Now aren''t you suppose to be crying with happiness or at least beaming as this is the happiess day of your life? After the wedding there was a very nice cocktail reception with lots of food (again) both stationed and passed and an open bar (obviously).
The reception was also very nice. Flowers everywhere. Lots of different favors including the water bottles, a hand fan, lucky bamboo, and the candy bar. They had a live band which was pretty good. When the best man gave his speech he had said something like "I''m going to have to get Clint''s extra housekeys back. Whoever has a key please bring it forward." He had asked me and Al''s sister-in-law to help him out and gave us both keys but didn''t tell us why. I thought was was creative. There were like ten keys all together from different people.
Overall it was a really great time. Al''s family was really great (I''ve met them all before, but it''s been about a year since they''ve all gotten together.) Al''s Mom was really pushing that we would be next and while her and Al''s Dad were wasted after the reception they both said that they would kill Al if he didn''t marry me. All weekend there were comments like that and they are pretty much starting the planning, haha.
I don''t think that this will get him to propose faster, he really didn''t say much about it. I kinda brought it up on the ride home, and he didn''t say much then either except that he still wants to get married. We''ll just have to see from here.
Good weekend, but now it''s back to work, no time to rest
