Okay, I have a need for some more of your wonderful suggestions. My nephew (who is a senior in high school) will be singing at my wedding. He can do the traditional Italian aria type stuff or more current popular song type stuff. Personally though, I love his operatic style voice and would love for something more towards the traditional. Other than Ave Maria, does anyone have any suggestions of some songs that I could have him sing. Even though the ceremony is 3 months away, I would like to pick something now, so that I can get the sheet music/cd and have him start working on it if it is going to be a more difficult piece. I am open to ANY suggestions. Thanks :)

Come on...anyone? What songs are being/were performed at your ceremony?

wish i could be of more help. we aren''t having a singer. just a pianist, violinist & trumpeter. and we haven''t picked our songs yet.

One Hand, One Heart

from West Side Story?

I''m a classical music buff and I''d love to help you, but I''d like to know more about what you''re looking for... An opera aria? Italian? Latin? English?

I have to admit I''m a bit puzzled at having the Ave Maria sung at your wedding... Is there any special significance to this song for you/your FI? Just curious...

I have to agree with Ebree about Josh Groban. *melts* I can barely believe he''s only 25, he has such a deep, mature voice! His songs are so musical and beautiful!

Anchor- The only reason I said "other than Ave Maria, does anyone have any suggestions" is because this seems to be a common one for weddings. No there is no significance for either of us. As for giving you guidance into what I am looking for, I wish I could. I just don''t know what I am looking for. That is why I just wanted all kinds of random suggestions and people to let me know what their favorites are. I really know nothing about this genre of music

Starset- I am not sure if I know One Hand, One Heart, but I will look it up. Thank you for the suggestion.

Ebree and Anchor- Josh Groban!!! That''s a great suggestion. My nephew has a very strong, full voice like that and I think that he could do some of his songs beautifully. I will look into that.

Thank you guys for your responses.

I like the "One Hand,One Heart" idea. Beautiful song for a wedding.

One Hand, One Heart is from the musical West Side Story. If you are familiar with the movie, it''s the scene where Tony and Maria are enacting a wedding in the bridal boutique where she works. Rent the DVD if you are not familiar with this musical!

Is your nephew a tenor, baritone, or bass?

Jelly- I hate to admit it, but I have never seen West Side Story...guess I will have to make a trip to Blockbuster this weekend :)

Anyhow, my nephew is a tenor.

It has been a while since I''ve been to a wedding where a song was in it... so keep in mind these songs were sung by my Mom at various weddings in the 80''s!

Sunrise, Sunset- from Fiddler on the Roof
Through the Eyes of Love- Theme from Icecastles (I do adore this song!)
Through the Years- Kenny Rogers

Oh I thought of a more recent one:
From this Moment- Shania Twain

I just LOVE that Shania Twain song. That is definitely a song I want for either my ceremony or for the reception. One of my all time favorites...
As for opera, I do love Bocelli. His music is very powerful.

Ky6-- what type of church are you getting married in? The reason I ask is because many catholic (well, most Catholic) churches have a list of "pre-approved" songs that are "allowed" at a wedding ceremony. I was quite surprised when I got married that most of the songs I had wanted were not on the list, but the church I got married at was pretty strict.

However, One Hand One Heart was on the list (go figure) and we also had our vocalist sing Ave Maria. We also had a song called Grow Old Along With Me, although right now I cannot remember who originally recorded it.

At my sister's wedding they were able to use All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera as her prelude. That is one of my all time favorite songs. She also used a song called Only Time as her processional but I don't remember how it goes. Her church was less strict than mine.
