Some Days a Dog Just Can't Win!

   That's hilarious!!! One of ours is the same with a ball... "no" does not mean NO to her!

Awwwwwww

Oh, bless his little playful heart!!!

Aw... Poor puppy. He just wanted a friend to play with him

That's really cute. I didn't see the stick until the end, though. To me it looked as if the dog was just trying to get the man to play! One would think the dog could smell the the difference between that man and other men he knows, however!

That interested me too, Deb. He seems only to have used his eyes, not scent or the fact that the 'guy' never budged. But BCs are OCD dogs -- maybe he was so focused on play, nothing else registered.

Well...this is a bit of a digression if not an actual threadjack. I hadn't realized that the dog in the video was a Border Collie, Laurie. I have seen them, of course, but they are not a breed I interact with on a regular basis. One of our neighbors who grew flowers in Virginia had them for the purpose of guarding the property, and I have heard that they are rocket scientists among dogs. Nonetheless, I am just not in tune with them. At any rate, I looked them up after I read your comment. I read a little warning written by a rescue organization for people thinking of adopting Border Collies. All I can say is that I thought I had a handful with my late Lab, Biscuit, the demented dog who thought it was his duty to bite people who came to my front door! (He, also, was adopted!) I think if I adopted a Border Collie who thought my child was a sheep and went after her biting and snarling if she ran, I would have a heart attack! I guess I could have had it harder than I did. Who would have thought that Biscuit may have been a blessing?

Bless his heart! Soo cute! Thanks for sharing :)

As you know, it's mostly in how they're trained when young, Deb. Sad, isn't it? Some is individual temperament, of course, but if properly trained as a puppy, Biscuit would have been much much better if not a welcoming committee. BCs similar; especially, I should say. They are not aggressive dogs in the usual sense, as I'm sure the website mentioned, but they are compulsive herders -- particularly if they don't get enough exercise any other way. I wouldn't want one either, but one thing is certain: they are so brilliant, they can be trained to do (or NOT do) just about anything. I'm sure they'd learn to wash your socks & balance your bankbook. They win so constantly at Agility & Obedience trials, there has been talk of establishing a class for Border Collies only so other breeds can have a chance. Definitely not the breed for everyone. And positively not one people should buy from a backyard breeder -- knowing their lines is important. They end up in rescue because owners can't deal with what they need. (Like a zillion other types.)

I've known lots & lots of them from my days of showing & from the obedience training club I belonged to forever. They're very affectionate & cheery, usually get along fine w/other dogs & kids. But they must have a firm hand & an outlet for their intelligence; otherwise they do it their own way, which leads to trouble. I've never known one to bite seriously -- I mean, meaning to bite in aggression. They will nip because it's the instinctive way they get sheep to move their butts around. Never heard of one breaking the skin even, but they can scare kids.

Wonder if it's better etiquette if you threadjack your own thread?

I believe that it is impossible to "threadjack" one's own thread. If one wants to change direction during the thread and one is its author, what one writes is automatically termed, "redefining" the thread!

Everything you write on dogs, Laurie, is fascinating, by the way. So feel free to threadjack others.

Deb, always helpful
