I'm pretty new to this section but it seems like most people put their life stories so I'll start off and get as far as I can. We're going hot tubbing soon so I may need to put some of this story on hold until we get back :)

Ok

I was born at the Mayo clinic on July 6, 1984 in Rochester, MN. One year prior there was a mysterious disease going around Minnesota (what it was, I still don't quite remember). People were being quarantined and put off in sections of the hospital to die. My mom contracted the disease and a priest was scheduled to give her her last rites the next day when a doctor asked my dad if he would allow them to try an untested antidote they had just come up with and he said yes. The priest walked up the stairs the next day and when he walked into my mom's room she was sitting up in her bed and fine when the previous day she had been completely comatose. Due to the *ahem* celebrating after all of this, I was conceived. Because of the serious condition my mom had been in she had to go into the doctor twice a week to make sure everything was ok. My parents lived in a small town at the time called Preston, MN so everyone contributed to helping come up with my name. Eventually I was named after a popular Dolly Parton song that was on the radio at the local bar called Jolene.

I grew up in Preston, MN for a year. My dad was a government/economic teacher at the local high school where my sister's attended (lucky them haha). After my second sister graduated high school we relocated to Lubbock, TX where my sister went to college at Texas Tech and stayed with us nearby. My oldest sister meanwhile was at school in Iowa. I did normal kid things like swimming, birthday parties, playing house and I loved loved barbies!! I also took gymnastics when I was 3 years old and got hooked.

When I turned 5 my parents and I moved to Moorhead, MN because the school system was much better (no offense to those in texas, this was the reason they gave me!). I made lots of friends and grew up in girl scouts, ballet, and gymnastics. I liked to wear disney princesses on ALL of my clothing and was addicted to the Babysitter Club books and The Boxcar Children.

When I got into Junior High I went through a "nerd phase". I had terrible bangs, ugly glasses, braces and instead of growing up and into curves...I only grew into the curves lol. Then the summer of 7th grade I got contacts, grew my hair out, and finally grew a little taller and met my first boyfriend. I remember vividly that I only dated him for a short time because when he kissed he would slobber all over my face and I thought it was really gross. Haha. In 8th grade while I did grow into my body I went out of my mind. Nobody in my family had bothered to tell me that depression ran in our family (nice huh). So I spent a lot of time feeling lonely and just not quite all there. I also went through a period with eating disorders, definitely not fun. During this time i went to school dances and started taking part in theatre. I also did gymnastics still and kept on with ballet and girl scouts. This was also the first year Fi and I would have been able to meet at the same school, I was in 8th grade and he was in 7th but we never met up...

I finally got into high school and I was a freshman and it was very exciting! At the time anyways, lol. I stayed in theatre and was in band, speech, ballet, and girl scouts so I was a very busy girl. It was at this time I met Mike whom I would date on and off throughout my entire high school and some of college "career". Basically all through high school was the same except I would get a little older. I have fond memories of going to a Backstreet Boys concert with my best friend. I should also mention that I met my best friend #1 in 4th grade and then in 8th grade I met best friends #2 and #3. Also my junior year is when I apparently met Fi. He was in speech too but I guess I never really noticed him (I'm such a jerk haha). When I was a senior we were both in Grease together and then in another show in the spring which is when I got to know him as a friend.

I graduated high school in 2002 and went on to college! I started out as a double major in Psychology and Theatre because I originally wanted to open a children's theatre. After a couple semesters I learned that psychology really wasn't my thing and Theatre wasn't going to work out because I'm a really crappy singer haha. So I went with my other love of Graphic Design and did sooo good in it! Throughout college I partied a lot but that died down as I was getting ready to graduate. I also lost a lot of important people in my life during this time. My grandma passed away and then a year later my grandpa died. Mike that I had dated for so long passed away in Iraq which is what hit me the hardest. I also lost my cousin peter who was only 39 to cancer. A good friend of my mom's passed away as well who always treated me like one of her own grandkids. And my first pet of my very own, the cutest little bunny you could imagine passed away from unknown reasons. I met best friend #4 while I was in college as well. During this time I ran into Fi a couple times, at the grocery store, at a football game, etc. But he couldn't get up the nerve to ask me out, go figure! In college I was in dance, cheerleading, Circle K, Hall Council and was a leader of my own girl scout troop.

Finally after I graduated the guy I was dating for 3 years let me know that he didn't love me anymore and I got on my own. Got my own apartment, my own furniture and a grown up job. Then a couple months later I started talking to Fi online to catch up as we did once in a while and I kind of told him everything that had been going on and we met up for drinks a couple nights later after he got done working and we hit it off. We went to his place to talk more and ended up talking til 7 in the morning! We played scrabble too and we both got addicted to it which is where I got my whole scrabble thing. 5 months later he asked me to marry him using our scrabble board and the rest is history. Shortly after we moved to Colorado where we both are job hunting and just living life to its fullest. Things I like to do now are go to concerts (Madonna on tuesday!!!), play video games (we are both hooked on Rock Band 2), play with our kitten Pepper, read (currently reading Twilight but I'm a huge Harry Potter fan) and next month we are looking forward to taking my nephew (his future nephew) to Seussical the Musical as he has just discovered the books and now that we live so close to my sister we can spend more time with them! For Thanksgiving Fi and I are making the pies together which should be really fun as well, I'm really looking forward to it! And in the middle of all that, we're trying to plan a wedding haha.

Let me know if you want to know more, I'm more than willing to share!

Smurfy, thanks for sharing! I am a crappy singer too and love rock band too. Your FI sounds like a great guy and you too! That is so cool you are in Graphic Design, sounds like you are very creative!! I am so sorry for the loss of some of your family members.

I kind of have wanted to know something about you that is really personal so please feel free not to answer if you don''t want to, I''ll understand

I remember when you posted about your ex and how the break-up went, then about how he found out you had lost weight and how bummed he sounded (

).

I was wondering if he knew about your engagement/upcoming wedding.

I loved the twilight series! I felt like a teenager again while reading them... but they were so fun! Are you planning on seeing the movie?

Swedish bean- yes we''re going to the midnight showing you bet! lol I''m actually webmaster for a new magazine that is featuring twilight this month. It''s slowly getting up and running (I''ve only worked on it for 2 days) but check it out at www.famazons.com
It''s also going to feature harry potter, WoW, Magic, and D&D I''m kind of a big nerd :) It''s also mainly focused towards women

fiery- it''s cool, nothing is too personal for me, i''m very open! I actually did keep in touch with the SO (didn''t have much of a choice for awhile since him and FI worked at the same place for awhile lol the old sports bar I used to work at as well).
Well the night me and the girls went out to celebrate after it happened we ran into him at the bar and he had already found out about it and bought all us girls and him a round of shots to celebrate which was really nice. I told him I still had a few things of his I would leave with my mom that he could pick up when he had time since I was moving soon. So we''re on pretty civil terms. I''m surprised nobody asked about it earlier!

That is too cool that you''re named after the song "Jolene"...I looove that song!!! So, basically you''re the hot chick who can steal anybodys boyfriend

lol

I enjoyed reading about you Smurfy! We have a lot in common. Graphic Designer, Live in Colorado, (you already knew that though!) my boyfriend is from Minnesota. If I wasn''t a Graphic Designer, I''d really like to be a Psychologist. I also used to be in Theatre back in high school.

So why did you and your FI move out to Colorado? Do you have family out here? What do you think about it here vs. Minnesota?

I was reading through this (after enjoying a lovely beau moment on lorelei''s thread) and realized i never answered dreamgirl''s questions! so i am now...a month later...sorry dg lol

Me and fi moved out to colorado because Fargo, ND is just a stupid town, we really don''t like it. Everyone knows everyone and their business and we have always talked about how we want to see the world...why not start with colorado? lol I have a sister who lives out in longmont with her husband and my nephew which is great, only an hour''s drive! I really love living out here, it''s almost always sunny and last week I was walking around outside in SHORTS!!!!! Plus I love seeing the mountains everytime we get a good view on the road :) Now that we have both jobs we can afford to actually do stuff out here too which is great! For my birthday in july we''re planning to spend the weekend up in the mountains camping :)

That is definately an event that really causes some reflection. I had the hardest time when a girl I was close to died in a car accident on her way to school, in FRONT of our high school. It was soo much harder dealing with the loss of someone so young, I didn''t know that losing someone could feel like that.

I like your avitar change... took me awhile to recognize you though.. I do miss your kitty!

Hi Jolene! I''m glad to see a thread for you so we can all learn more about you, I like reading your posts. I remember reading the Babysitters Club books as a kid too, and I loved Claudia because she dressed funky! I''ve been to Mayo in Rochester, the campus there is beautiful. All of my mother''s relatives are in WI and MN, she grew up in the Hudson/River Falls area.
