Small(ish) e-ring by PS standards but HONKER in real life?

I'm in the same boat as a few of you. My "largest" stone is a 1.14 ACA. In my neck of the woods, it is considered large, however,
I still want to go bigger...or do I? I cant figure out what I want. I love wearing my 1.4 ctw 7 stone. Its kind of low-key blingy IMO.
Maybe I should stay with the 1.14 and maybe go 3 stone. That way it doesnt look huge (for my neck of the woods) but does provide
more bling. Dont know if that will make me happy or if I really should just go bigger??? How do you figure these things out?
Perhaps I need to buy a fake 3 stone and a fake 7.5mm to see if either will fit the bill without making me feel like I'm overdoing it.

That’s a good idea if you’re not sure what you want, tyty. And then even if you decide against spending a lot for a larger stone, you’ll still have that less expensive version of it to play with.

My rings are not huge to me and I wear them everywhere. Even to the barn. I get quite a few comments in certain areas and then blend in others. Though, when I was first married even a half carat diamond seemed big to me. It was a different time. I do turn it around in certain places because it feels uncomfortable. It just depends where I am.

So glad to see DF's PS stats are back, regardless of how he gets them. I kind of miss this.

Emotie not working for me today...

Why?, You don't trust me? :Up_to_something:

A real eye opener for me was a couple of years ago during parent teacher conferences. I had this ring on and it wasn’t so much that my diamond was bigger (because it wasn’t) but it was made better. I saw a lot of half carat or so diamonds but the settings looked like the breeze would break them. Of course being 1/3 of a carat it is considered tiny here:

My main ring I wear now (heart ring) has a small center diamond by PS standards at 85 points but that’s pretty standard among my group. My guess is one carat to a carat and a quarter is fairly typical in CT.

yadayada that's a beautiful design. An antique or reproduction?

Thanks so much, it is vintage, not antique as it would need to be 100 years old but somewhere around the 1950’s. My mom had one a lot like it but her diamond was half this size.

I don't wear diamonds except in my ears, my lobes are small so it makes the earrings look a lot bigger to some (not to me ) My friends always comment on them when my hair is back, especially if I wear the jackets (and they are big with the jackets)

I get comments on the rings because of the colors.

I believe the average size of a diamond engagement ring in the UK is .25ct, so Bella is gigantic by those standards. I have small hands but large fingers (6.75), so I suppose most people think she’s not real. I don’t actually care what others think, I waited 40 years for her, so I wear her and enjoy her.

I've always been size sensitive since I live in the Southeast where a 1 ct diamond engagement ring is considered relatively large. These days, lots of girls get halo settings to boost the size, though.

It's not that anyone has ever said or would ever say anything negative to me about my rings. It's just that I have no desire to stand out or appear overly materialistic or anything like that. I truly do not want to have the largest stones in my circle, but I do as far as my local friend and family circle goes. When I am with PSers, I can feel like the one with the little diamonds!

It was a long gradual climb for me, though. Family did notice and comment on my first upgrade to a 1.6 ct H&A stone. It seemed huge back then! Over time I changed diamonds and no one really noticed, I guess because they all looked big in general to them! I have worn the 2.3 ct AVR for 7 years and am too attached to sell it, but my mind has adjusted to the size and I'd love to dream about a 2.5 ACA. I'd also like to upgrade my 1.3 each ACA studs to 1.5 each. I'd love it, but both would be pretty much over the top where I live. Just because I can doesn't mean I should...that's what I tell myself! It has to end somewhere!

@tyty333 I think we feel similarly. But I think changing to a 1.5 ACA is certainly not unreasonable. I say go for it!!! (I loved that size and probably should have stayed there!)

I agree PS leans to the far high end. Where I live, large diamonds (or diamond look-alikes) aren't all that uncommon nowadays but in some surroundings, I too feel like my ring stands out in a way I don't like.

But people's reaction to that, or anything else that stands out about me, has also come to serve as something to watch, as far as how close I should be with that person. And also just kind of interesting about human nature.

Once I went to a birthday party for a new-ish friend, and a woman there made a bunch of noise about how my diamond was "blinding her." At first, I thought she was complimenting me, though maybe after having drunk a little too much. But then I realized it was more that nasty-nice kind of thing.

I ruled out jealousy over money since I knew she had a good job. My next guess was she may have felt threatened over my new friendship with "the birthday girl," since they'd been close friends for a long time.

Maybe I should have just asked her why she was braying like a donkey lol.

What a witch of a woman she must be !
I don't know anyone with even a 1 carot dianond
i know no one who has upgraded or has more than one ER
i know no one who has a diamond wedding ring, i only see gold bands
I have an American friend who got a very nice white saphire replacement ER because her arthritis made her old ring not fit

differences make the world a more interesting place

Sometimes i admit i think WTF ? Just because ive never heard of something before (like more than 3 bridesmaids and the ginormouse wedding industry in the US ) but i try to do it with love and respect in my heart - (well when its someone other than a Kardashian :mrgreen2: )

Doesn't matter what size an ER is so long as their is genuine love behind it

I would love a big honker ring one day
But hopefully a 1 carot lightbox before too long

My ring has a 1.55 ct H VVS1 super ideal center stone in a Simon G setting, a total yawner here on PS. IRL I get a lot of comments; "Beautiful ring", "Wow, I need sunglasses around that!", "Does it weigh your hand down?!", and similar. Definitely an attention getter. I posted it on a forum not related to jewelry, and got a ton of comments about it along the same lines.

And then there's the way I look at it....:love::love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

That’s far from a yawner! :kiss2:
But I totally get what you mean. My new ring is a 1.59 and it’s pretty small by PS standards but very sizable by real life standards.

I live in the Houston area, and its very common to see large engagement diamond rings. I consider my 2.5 ct medium-sized for here, not large.

Maybe that's why Houston now has 3 or the 4 super ideal vendors here -- they know the market will support them!

I wonder, with all the people moving to Texas from California or other high priced places, if diamonds will now be increasing in size there.

I don't think most people even notice our rings and other bling. And when they do I don't believe most have any clue what size it is or how much it costs. I think we are much more sensitive to this issue than the general population. Just my guess.

And anyway, what other people think of me is none of my business.

LOL!!! Preach sister!

I'm in CA, and large diamonds are not uncommon. I see them on maybe 1/3 women in my area. When I say large I mean about 2.5-4/5 carats, estimated. I have definitely gotten used to my stone. I think co-workers notice, but don't mention it frequently. They have probably gotten used to knowing me as the person who loves diamonds. Yah, I'm willing to be known that way. I did have some family members make snarky comments, but like my kids say "That's a YOU problem." I ignore and keep wearing these headlights. Put on your sunglasses if you can't handle the glare.

And if I am in a place where it just isn't appropriate, I swing it toward my palm. Meh...

@jaysonsmom congratulations! Off to ogle!!

Random ramblings....and a picture to share. My original e-ring was a 0.81ct mrb about the same size as my stud, and every decade of marriage I went up 1 carat, so the 10 year ring was 1.81ct mrb, the 20 year 2.8ct OEC. I just happened to take a picture of the 3 sizes on one hand today and WOW, the perspective shot was crazy!

Hard to believe that 21 years ago, I thought my 0.81ct was a nice healthy size with great presence on my hand, but now it looks small to me. My 2 bff's still wear their original e-rings which are more in line with my original e-ring (one has a 0.78ct princess, the other a 0.9ct mrb).9CDB0579-CCF1-47BD-A4DD-18BF4898892D.jpeg

Nice to see another Houston PSer. I agree. I went from a 1.37 to a 2.15. Nobody noticed and inside the actual city, it’s still a modest size. Most women in my neighborhood have 3ct+ One of my friends has a 10 carat emerald cut diamond. It’s gorgeous

Maybe I need to move to Houston. I live in So Cal, and amongst the real OC housewives, but I guess I just hang out with the ultra modest set. I need a friend with a 10 ct emerald cut!

i think my house is a dump when I see the WSJ "Mansions" section.

This is not a representative forum for gauging a "normal-sized" diamond solitaire :lol-2:. Or even "normal-sized" enthusiasm for the nuances of diamond cut and color.

And: it's not the city; it's the company you keep. ^ Pretty sure 3+ ct is not the new Houston standard.

Yes it is...Everything is BIGGER in Texas!.

Hi Jayson's Mom! Your diamonds are all gorgeous!

What size are the diamonds in your eternity band? I've been trying some bands on recently and I really really like yours. It looks like it strikes the right balance of good sized diamonds but still comfortable to wear. Would love to hear your thought on it.

Another size question..I like the proportions of your three stone ring. What are the sizes! All your rings are beautiful!

Who is the third???

Thank you, my band is a 7-stone ideal cut F/G 0.71ct total weight shared prong band from Signed pieces. It is very comfortable and it also looks great in its own. My ring size is 5.5 and it has good coverage.

My former asscher was 2.26 ct.
I did feel a bit conspicuous.

My current rock is "only" 1.51, so it's a bit more mind-comfortable.
Unfortunately  Octavias are a 4th of July fireworks show - on steroids.
