The attached is a bit lengthy and prepared for a forum where I moderate. I'm just too lazy to cut & paste everything here. Hope you enjoy.

Absolutely fabulous! :appl:

I want to go!!!

What a beautiful country! I especially loved the church you stumbled upon, so quaint. The hike on the walkway with the thin cable and openings on the bottom....no thanks!

Beautiful!

Great photos! Thank you for taking the time to post them and for explaining each photo, too! I think your floating man must have a seat of some sort attached to that pole, which is covered by his robe, but not sure how the pole is attached to the ground! I've always wanted to do a farm stay. The farm fresh food must have been amazing! Were you with a group, or did you plan everything on your own? You did a lot of hiking too!!! I had no idea there were so many caves in Slovenia. And, yay for a day stuck in Paris!!

We did it on our own using Rick Steves guide book as a resource. The farm food was heavenly. It's a good thing we were doing so much hiking else I would have been as big as a house from eating all that food. The woman who ran the B&B portion of the farm has 10 kids and she manages to do the cooking for her guests as well as help her husband run the rest of the farm. I was in awe.

Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous photos!! I was just watching Rick Steves doing his 'Hidden Europe' series a few days ago which included Karst, and I knew I wanted to go to Slovenia and Croatia. Such beautiful, beautiful places

Exactly what I was thinking! Gorgeous photos! Looks like a fabulous time!

What a woman she must be, Matata. I'm tired just reading about her! The farm sounds like a dream to stay at & everywhere is SO beautiful. Not the caves, though, claustrophobia here. I get the heeby jeebies just thinking about being underground.

I didn't know Lippizaners turn white so late -- fascinating. All of your trip just looks like a rare experience. Is Slovenia a longtime wish or did you decide to see it recently? Gorgeous, and your travelogue is super. Thanks!

We've covered quite a bit of western Europe and started venturing into eastern Europe a few years ago. All of our experiences in the eastern part have been extraordinary. I've been promising (and reneging) DH that I would do a hiking vacay with him and finally caved in. Mistake because now he wants to do a hut-to-hut monster hike thru the alps. Ok with me as long as he can find someone to do it with because I need a hot shower and a good bed at the end of the day, not a cot in a hut on a windy mountain with no indoor plumbing. He might be open to a more sedate walking vacay through Ireland or Scotland. We're looking into that for next year.

thank you for sharing your trip! nothing like wine in france to perk a girl up!

Matata, i have to tell you, my hubby took one look at your pictures of Pirano and said, "i know that from a movie".

we saw Piran-Pirano at a movie festival: if you get a chance, see it. about WWII, the italians, and one man's return to the home he was born. i'll leave it at that. serious art house film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1698551/ it appears that netflix does not have it, though.

Matata, wow! Your pics are fantastic! You look like the world-weary traveler until you got that beer, but otherwise fabulous and I love your travel bag, who is that by?

You might be interested to know that I hail from the limestone capital of the U.S. Much of the limestone that built Washington D.C. and many of its monuments is from my hometown. Slovenia looks a lot like my part of Indiana! We have quarries and caves and clear blue waters that look similar to your pics.

Thanks for sharing! :appl:

I can dig your outlook! A friend of mine took a hiking vacation in the Himalayas last summer -- a week up & another back down. His wife was notably absent from that trip! Pics were gorgeous, but I was happy to view them sitting in my own living room rather than toiling up to base camp. Hiking through Scotland or Ireland would be outta sight, though. Both are super walking locations! I'd think that is a compromise your DH could live with.

beautiful!!!!

Thanks for sharing -- that looks marvelous!

As for the hut-to-hut hike through the Alps, I actually did that in 1997. We went 12-16 miles/day for 16 days and covered ground in Switzerland, Italy and France. I was frickin' exhausted at the end. If you do finally agree, more power to you sister!

Gorgeous pics, Matata! You've made me want to go to Slovenia all the more =)
