I was forced to listen to Howard Stern yesterday and for once he was talking about something that actually interested me. He was on a website called Skin Deep and you can enter in any product that you use, for instance, the kind of deoderant/antiperpirant and it will tell you how harmful it is. It does not exactly say what is in it that makes it harmful, but I think it is a good tool to use to see if what you are using is actually as good for you as it claims.

I went on today and searched a few things. One of them was Huggies baby wipes and the cucumber and green tea are a 7 where the fragrance free are only a 4.

I thought some moms would like to look and see. I find it interesting to see that DH deoderant is better healthwise than mine.

Thanks for the link, I looked up a few of my products and was shocked to learn my philosophy shower gels are a 5-6 on the hazard scale! This is definitely an interesting site to play around on.

Thanks for the link RQ! I''ve been researching preservatives and additives etc since I''ve been looking at home made soaps and lotions. Interesting stuff..you don''t stop to think that those things are absorbed into your body-all those nasty chemicals and such. Who wants/needs that?

I have to wonder, as cool as this is, whether the hazard actually EXISTS or if it is just considered harmful because of the amount of preservatives and such.

a preservative here, a presevative there....it all adds up.

wow. I was very surprised that one of JT''s KIDS products was an 8!

interesting. Thanks for posting it.
I am preggo now and use natural shampoo, deordorant, toothpaste, face cream etc. b/c a naturopath once brought the toxic content of these things to my attention. Thing is, once i am no longer pregnant, i know i''ll go back to the traditional stuff because it works better

. I have yet to find a natural shampoo that really gets my hair shiny, or a toothpaste that doesn''t taste awful. But i will use this kind of site to check some products out and pick the least harmful

I knew about baby wipes so i use cotton cloths with water. It just didn''t make sense to pay for them, plus deal with toxins in that fragile diaper area, and the waste. Sure, cleaning poopy cloths is more work, but not much.

just checked vaseline body lotion and aveeno lotion. Aveeno scored well for the kids products, but both aveeno and vaseline are terrible for adult products. Ew.

I think i''ll just go back to my bottle of olive oil
