Sorry if this question is phrased strangely. Here's an example - there are at least 3 people who I always thought of as having HUMUNGOUS bling, but now that I've gotten my upgrade and have seen all of the bling here, it just doesn't seem that impressive to me. In fact, one of the girls that I used to envy now kinda seems like she's got a small stone. In a way I miss the days of having stars in my eyes, but I am NOT giving back my bling! :-D

I love rings, so I will oggle, no matter what the size of the stone. Huge bling still floors me. Internet photos are one thing, but real-life huge bling is still fairly rare in my area. I think PS has definitely trained my eye to more accurately judge stone size, and has pretty much numbed me to bling sticker shock. I'm much more observant of ring settings and stock vs custom peices.

What I think of as a large stone has changed I used to think anything 1ct and over was large, but now my size threshold has risen to 2ct.

I definitely notice big bling because it is not common where I live.

actually I think that may be more of where I am. My friend had a 1.5 and I thought that was ginormous but now not so much.

In a weird way... Yes! Not that stones don't look big to me, but i'm not impressed by size. (Take that any way you want ;) )

I am more impressed by well cut, beautifully sparkly stones with lovely settings... I know a few women who have huge honkers at work, but their stone looks crappy. :knockout:

I still notice the big bling. I work at a restaurant and always notice customers' big beautiful rings.
But now knowing what I know from PS, I also notice cheapy-looking maul store rings. (I don't mean to sound stuck up, but you can just tell...)

On PS, yes...but in person...no, my jaw still drops and the pupils in my eyes turn into little hearts!

LOL!! I think the jaw dropping and heart pupils describes exactly what happens to me when I see big bling IRL.

I don't think I'm immune to big bling, but- since PS- my idea of what's big has become totally distorted. My MIL has a 2.25 RB that I used to think was HUUUUUUUUGGGGE and now it looks sort of small. Messed up, I know. 2 carats used to be my dream size; now it's 5+... Maybe if I win the lotto.. twice.

Hang out in my neighborhood more often! ;))

Where I live, I see huge bling.... The people that wear it, are immune. Not me!!! I always love seeing a well cut honker. And I love how many wear a fab ering with many eternity bands.. Many have those long and graceful fingers. ME?? I am short and stuby.... ;(

My hands, not me!!!!!! :cheeky:

I have not become immune to huge bling. Where I live, it's common to see honkers bigger than mine every day (and mine's almost 2 ct). My eyes immediately go to someone's hand subconsciously....but what I've noticed is that they are usually really a bad cut, really low in color or not well maintained (dirty, nasty) rings! I rarely see big and beautiful rocks like I see here on PS.

Yes, now the Cullinen I bores me! JUST KIDDING!

Um, no.

Yes and no.

A little with diamond center stones. I understand that some people really go all out with the engagement ring center. Especially if it is the only piece they routinely wear. It's one piece... sink all you got into it. Plus, in all honesty... so many of them are dirty or poorly cut when they are big. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to talk the owners into a steam cleaning or a re-cut.

But if it's well cut and something other than a round... yeah. I'm still dazzled. I almost feel off down escalator trying to get a better look this giant EC in the Westfield mall in SF once.

With other large bling-- no I'm not immune at all. Now that I know how much those studs, that pendant, the tennis bracelet, or that amazing ginormous band cost... yeah.

It's the sucessive giant bling possessions to the engagement ring that impress me. And even living where I do... I rarely see any.

I know you didn't ask but I have become totally immune (and maybe a little snotty) about overpriced designer bling (not Tiffany or Cartier) but things like David Yurman, etc. Just totally make me think... I could get something really orignal and handmade from Etsy for half that.

No, I can't say that I have... I don't really prescribe to the bigger is better thing. I wanted a big stone because of what it did, not because of status or style. I have the same appreciation to pretty rings I always did and I honestly don't even care if they're well cut or not. I *never* think oh poor thing has an ugly or small diamond. I do sometimes think, "wow that really sparkles!" or "that's a super cool/pretty design" but stones wow me the same as ever, no matter the size :)

Or are included, but when I see it IRL or on PS, of course, I can't say how I feel about it. So I'm talking in general terms.

I can't help it. It's my pet peeve. Big (kenny, heavy if you prefer) stones that look like frozen spit so the couple get get it up to 2 cts. :o

Yes and no.

No, in that a beautiful emerald cut diamond regardless of size makes me drool like a fool :cheeky:

Yes, for settings! Before PS if someone I know had gotten a halo setting or a setting with blingy sidestones, I'd be in awe. 5 years on PS have definitely made me immune to the blinger mountings. It has to be a 2.5+ carat diamond in a halo setting (Carrie Underwood's for example) for me to go "Wow" these days. Like, total finger coverage! But it also affects my purchases now, too. I want a halo setting, DH wants me to go with a solitaire. I want finger coverage, he wants traditional and understated. I'll win because it's my ring  but to him, why does a e-ring need to be "that big?" lol

My style has changed thanks to PS - I discovered the antique cuts, in warmer tones, which are now my favorites... My SIL has a large diamond, about a 2.5 carat, it's a well cut RB, and I used to love it and was really impressed by it, but now, it's kinda 'meh' - because my tastes have changed, not so much because I am not impressed by the size. I do appreciate different sizes and styles, but if I saw a 3 ct. OEC in person, I'd be very excited and not immune to that at all! =)

Seriously!!! I work in Manhattan Beach and 3 ct stones are pretty much the norm. Crazy! I still look though, obvi :loopy:

I'm never immune to any bling. Size was never an issue with me - I drool as much over 25 point stone as I do over a 25 carat stone.

I've become pickier about what impresses me. My DD's boyfriend's mom has a huge stone, probably over 3 carats, but it's cloudy and bleah! I did some price checking here, and I think she paid less for it than I did for my RHR (vvs1, 3 excellent EC). Mine is certainly more sparkly!

All I could think was "i'll put my GIA cert up against yours anytime, sister!" :D

I've also lost my taste for halos. I've seen them so much here that I find them boring now. . .

I spend a lot of time in colored stones, and I used to be impressed by big rubies but now I just figure they're beryllium treated or glass filled, so that doesn't do it for me either. I know I can get one on ebay for a couple of hundred.

When I go to jewelry stores or gem shows (just to browse, I prefer PS vendors) the dealers are so thrilled to talk to someone who appreciates a good sphene or can discuss the new Winza sapphire find, that they're just drooling on themselves! Poor guys! They love to bring out the chrome diopside (or whatever) and ask me to guess what it is. I think some of them have a lonely life. . .

I do notice good pearls, though, and drool over them (I am active in the pearls forum too). I saw a double strand 22-24 inch rope of 12 mm SS on a lady and I almost followed her home! But now, the standard 8 mm tahitians don't impress me unless they have some amazing overtones.

So, yes, PS has made me immune to size, but more tuned into quality.

No, I still want to look, but no matter how big it is, if it's cloudy and dirty it's not as impressive as seeing a smaller but better cut stone. I saw a woman the other day who I found out was massively wealthy and she had two gigantic solitaires. Others were whispering about how lucky she is to have such huge diamonds and all I could think was..they're big but that's it. Like they were just for show or something. I thought oh wow those are huge (probably 3cts each or better, round) but they didn't catch the light at all, no sparklies to ohh and ahh over, just two white stones. Maybe they were dirty..but still, if you can afford big honkers like that wouldn't you want to keep them clean so you really had something to show off?

I just got my e-ring and I went w/ a vendor so i can trade up (I want a honker one day!)....ironically, so many people who look at my 1.61ct insist "its already huge" but they have NOOO IDEA! After hanging out on ps, i know its tiny.

I also realise i bought what is probably one of the most frowned upon styles here at ps....a halo'd princess (yes, i know many of you guys are sick of both) but Its what i love right now.

Hopefully, years from now i will have a 2.5ct chunky cushion with tapered french cuts down the shank bc THAT is MY DREAM RING!! For now though, i love my tiny, trendy, overused, not very creative halo'd princess :-) It's got quality sparkly stones -- its the perfect 1st step for me!!! :D (even if it bores other PSers to tears-lol)

Strangely enough, my DH often notices the big bling first, and then he'll whisper who's wearing it so that I can take a quick (and I hope unobtrusive) glance.

My taste runs to the simple spectacular stones; I'm not a huge fan of layers of bands. :))

I worked at the Super Bowl this year and we were in the same hotel as the NFL Commissioner and all of the other higher ups in the NFL, former players, celebrities, etc.

Let's just say I've never seen so much bling! Every elevator ride was another chance for me to ogle people's 3+ carat e-rings!

Me too.
I'm more impressed when I see a diamond that is clean and well cut, than than I am by one that is just large.
Wealth does not impress me; beauty does.
What does impress me is the light show from the blending of one of nature's rarest rocks with the rare art of good cutting.

Do I appreciate size too?
Sure, what's not to like?
Problem is, since most people are impressed mostly by size the demand for the largest possible diamond means most biggies are only big, not well cut.
To me a big poorly-cut diamond is particularly disappointing because I know that for the same price they could have gotten a rock that was a little smaller but much more beautiful.

FWIW, I wear a 2.26 ct asscher but rarely encounter anything much over 1-ct in my world.
I also love wearing my 0.83 ct round Solasfera from time to time.
Size ain't everything.
What good is a big one that can't perform? :naughty:

But it is a rare delight when I run into all 3 Cs, cut, cleanliness and carat as when I saw Coati's amazing 3-ct OEC recently :lickout:

The new Pricescope slogan!

I don't know, I sort of separate Pricescope photos from real life. I like looking at them, but it's like looking at models in magazines. I don't expect people to start looking like that in real life.

I don't see a lot of big bling anywhere I go (which often includes NYC). I also don't see a lot of pretty bling-- and as some have said, I appreciate that a lot more.

Before I was on Pricescope, I actually thought I didn't like diamonds that much, since I so rarely saw anything that was pretty and had sparkle. I still appreciate when I see pretty stones a lot.

I have got better at estimating actual diamond sizes since being on Pricescope. Before I was, I thought anything bigger than mine at the time (a .38) was 'about a carat'. for me, it was just a kind of shorthand for saying 'a big stone.' I had no idea what a carat looked like. Now that I know, I notice how rarely I see one. Most of the rings I see have from about .25-.75.

One thing I wnat to add--I mean this is no way to sound offensive. But I have been on Pricescope off and on for three years now, and I have looked at a whole lot of the old posts (back when looking at old posts was easier because search was more user friendly). I think one reason that I don't have more 'lust' about the beautiful rings on here is that they go in cycles. It seems that many, many people get similar rings at around the same time. The first ones look gorgeous. The later ones are still gorgeous, but by then I have seen so many that I'm kind of over the style. Even though I still haven't seen it in real life. So I keep coming back again and again to just loving the very simple solitaires with the very high quality diamonds of whatever size. I don't know if this makes sense. I get zonked out on asscher cuts with pave, or split shanks, or cushion cuts or whatever the current trend here is even though I haven't seen them in real life

I'm curious to know how many Pser are able to recognize a big simulated from a real diamond from distance.

In USA it's usual to wear false thing. False nails, false diamond, false brand clothes. This is why I love Pricescope, cause I know there are real diamonds and real gemstones!

In my little town, if I saw a big ring I'm pretty sure it's a zellers one. Nobody wear a diamond over 1 carat and 1 carat is very rare good quality or not!

I'll bet lots of people think they can tell a real from a good fake.
I have no idea if I can tell, but I'd love to learn how.
I'd love to have someone teach me and then test me.

Since I rarely run into anything over 1 ct in my world, people probably think mine is fake.
That's fine.
