We''re renting our tuxes in San Francisco, but instead of the black rental tux they offer we want to buy a really nice WHITE silk vest and tie instead. Does anyone know of any shops that we could go into from SF to San Jose that we could try on and buy items like that? The tux shop had a sillk courderoy style vest but it was too ivory looking. We need white white.

Thanks!

Not in San Jose or San Francisco, but we bought a silk tie and cumberbund from here: http://www.beautiesltd.com/

They specialize in bow ties but make straight ties, vests, cumberbunds, etc. to coordinate too. They are very nice quality.

We had gone to like 15 tuxedo shops and all they offered was polyester and pretied ties. We got Purcell (ivory/champagne color) but they have some white options too.

Thanks for the tip I''ll check it out!

So the site looks good but my FI is sayign he wants to see stuff in person so if anyone else has a suggestion let me know!

That''s what my fiance said too...but 15 tuxedo stores later he changed his mind

It''s seriously hard to find nice mens formalwear, at least where we live. SF/SJ might be a better bet, so I hope someone has some suggestions for you!

Just in case anyone digs up this old thread we went with ''Al''s Attire'' in North Beach, San Francisco. He''s a classic tailor that makes everything from vintage to new. He''s making a beautiful seven fold tie for my dad and is making the vest and tie for my FI in a white silk tafetta like my dress. The best part is he''s right there to measure you perfectly (this includes him needing to see the tux pants and jacket or know a few more precise measurements in order for him to cut the bottom of the vest perfectly. He''s also able to match the fabric of my dress to the tie and vest he''ll be making for my FI.

My vote goes out to Al''s for anyone needing that extra something special that''s well fitted. He doesn''t charge an arm and a leg either and I have a freind that had his tux with tails custom made from him. Be sure to meet with Al while you''re there since he''s the man with the know all. I plan on getting a really cool custom ladies jacket made there one day in the future. They have such wonderful stuff they can make and in a huge variety of fabrics.
