what''s the secret when it comes to keeping indoor Orchids?

what size pot ?
how much sun do they need ?
how often should i water ?
what type of soil ?
do they need fertilizer ? what brand ?

I can''t figure orchids out either. I tried to keep one alive once and failed horribly. I''d be interested to know what to do too!

This particular orchid has a cinnamon scent. Very lovely.

I no longer have these orchids, unfortunately. I went on vacation for 3 weeks and had someone taking care of them. When came back, alot of them were damaged to the point of no return and I just lost interest in them, unfortunately!

I still love them. When I retire, I will probably get back to collecting orchids again.

They do not like to have wet feet and does not like to be in a large pot. Loves humidity but need to have the air circulating. I had some pots on top of pepples with water, while others where on top of a tray with water.

No direct sun, they will get sun burned. Some of them likes filtered sun, while others are content in shade..

They have specific soil for orcids. Not really soil, more like chips of barks and stuff. Alot of people who grow orchid has their own secret receipes.

There are many different kinds of orchid...

Phalaenopsis (moth orchid), IMHO, would be the easiest to grow for beginners.

both my slipper orchids (i *think* they''re slipper orchids - i know precious little about orchids) re-bloomed this spring. (well, one is blooming, and one is about to).

i treat them appallingly, and they live near a window which is often open - even in winter (and in NY this is no joke!) i keep the soil moist and they seem to do just fine. i *want* to grow cymbidiums - my favorite - but i''ve had the worst possible results with them at home (australia). i''ve thought about doing a bunch in pots and putting them outside in a nice shady spot in the summer but i''m not sure if that would work.

it''s probably just hit and miss for me at this point, tho the inside ones *are* doing beautifully well.
