I love that there are 2 lizards in this thread!

Mr. Magoo is so cute, Pink! Lizards rock. I''ve never had one before, so this will be a dumb question, but, do they like to be around people? Like..will they sit on you and let you hold them?

We used to have tree frogs, and if I''d pet the top of their head or the side of their neck, it seemed as if they liked it. They''d close their eyes and lean into my finger-but I figured it was actually probably scaring them, so I didn''t do it often.

Of course every lizard is different, but mine is virtually a green house cat. He eats from my hand, watches tv in my lap, nests in my sweaters. He loves to be petted, he loves baths, he doesn''t bite or try to run away. The trick is to handle them often and with consistency. Reptiles can be kind of off putting to people because they aren''t "cute" by normal standards or furry. But they are highly intelligent and respond extraordinarily well to people. They are communal animals by nature and like contact. Mr. Magoo is just a really chill little dude. Even my mom loves him and she used to be deathly afraid of anything with scales

Awww that sounds so cute! I would love to have a lizard that acted like a cat! Do you have other pets as well? I want to wait until the kids are a little older (Trapper will be 3 next month and he''s just too little, he wouldn''t understand..he thinks he''s a dinosaur) but we also have cats and I wonder if they would try to eat it or kill it.

Sorry for the t/j DF!

He''s our only pet right now, unfortunately his little sister passed away recently. She was a pet store case I was trying to rehab but it ended up being too late. I''ve noticed he''s definitely been different since she died, he''s been hiding and sulking. They really do form strong bonds once they are in a household. I''ve seen iguanas and cats co-habituate like brothers and sisters before, but if your cats are older, they probably won''t like having a lizard around. Plus igs require huge enclosures with lots of UVA/UVB lighting, misters to keep their skin moist, trees to climb. So if you ever did get one you would have to be prepared for that. They aren''t for every family, but we love them

Whoops! I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because I missed Packrat's reply. Yes, Phoenix is a beardie. When she was little, her stripes were a more intense orange, and the pattern on the very top of her head looked just like an orange (fire) bird. Funnily enough, I met another beardie owner with a girl named Phoenix for the exact same reason. The scaled version of Fluffy or Spot, I guess.

I've had two iguanas in the past (at separate times), both of them girls, and with lots of love and attention they both grew up to be wonderful pets. Pink is spot on that they require HUGE enclosures, specific lighting requirements, lots of attention, etc - so they aren't the right pets for everyone. However, in a family full of allergies, they were the perfect pets for me!

My iguanas had the personalities of somewhat aloof cats, but their behavior was more like dogs, I think They were both toilet trained to go outside (they would let us know), or, more literally, in the winter we would just put them on the toilet (I have a photo somewhere, but I'd have to scan it...) and eventually they figured out what we wanted them to do there. They also begged for food, which basically meant climbing up you and fighting for it (I have another pic of one of them trying to steal my pizza...). Their favorite thing to do was sit in the window to bask in the sun and watch what was going on outside. If it was hot and sunny, we would take them outside. They'd bask in the sun for a bit, do their business in the grass, eat a few weeds, and when they were bored they would walk back up to the door of the house. They're smarter than a lot of people give them credit for.

ETA: Pink, I forgot to say how cute your little boy is! He brings back fond memories. Enjoy him!
