I was looking online at the Waterford Crystal Wedding collection and they were selling for 135.00 for a set of 2 glasses. I thought that was crazy ( I know its Waterford Crystal) and so I didn''t buy them. I was on another site and someone was selling them because they didn''t use them at their wedding, or got them as a gift, and have the reciept and everything, and they want 60.00 for them. I shot them an email but I want to know if you all think it''s worth it? My children can use them at their wedding, and they are BEAUTIFUL flutes, but really, is it worth the money? Or should I let them go???

Thanks!

Personally, I do not think it''s worth the money. You may find the heart thing a little cheesy for everyday use. And if the hearts don''t give you $135 worth of pleasure in the 60 seconds you''ll use them (do the math in $ per second), I wouldn''t bother. The toast will be juuuuust as sweet and memorable with regular ol'' flutes.

Unless $135 is nothing to you and you''re happy to spend the money, I think this is a clear case of wedding industry bloat. Why do you need fancy toasting flutes? If you really WANT them, that''s one thing, but you sure as heck don''t need them.

If it were me, I''d spend the money on something I''d use for more than 60 seconds.

I can get them for 60.00 instead of the 135.00. It''s still not worth it? Even just to have waterford crystal glasses?

60.00 is not terrible, but will you use them? You can get two gorgeous plainer flutes without the hearts. Those look like two swans to me when I quickly glance at them. I just think you could get two that you will use on other occasions, like a nice dinner or something...

No, not worth it, unless you love them. I think you could do much better.

$60 is still $1/second. You won''t use them again with that design on them. And Waterford Shmaterford. Good crystal is good crystal, whatever the brand name.

I agree with Diamondfan: if you really want fancy glasses to toast with, get some that don''t have hearts (or swans) on them so that you won''t be embarrassed to use them again on all the other celebratory occasions life will hold.

good price, but i also prefer a non-specific pattern. we bought the lismore ones. i enjoy them. we use them every year to toast our anniversary, but we're sentimental like that.

Perhaps a relative would have something similar that you can use for the toast, and then you''d also have some sentimental element to the event.

But to buy them just for the toast? Nah. Too many other things will come up that need $$....

they are swans

Just an FYI, TJMaxx always has a lot of really good lead crystal for very reasonable prices.

Ditto.

If you really want flutes, get some you really like and can see yourself using for several years. I often check out manufacturers websites to see if there are any patterns they have on sale because they are discontinuing them. This, of course, is only a good idea if you're able to buy the quantity you want.

Waterford is typically carried by Macy's and other large department stores and can sometimes be found on sale. I also have really good luck with ebay, but I have a bit of a crystal champagne flute collection and know exactly which designs I'm looking for.

OHHH! I like the last pair! Thanks so much guys! I think I''m going to pass on them!

Redrose,
If you wanted Waterford, check out Lismore Essence. They are expensive but Upscale Gallery has the lowest prices on all the china and crystal that I was looking for. I personally would not buy that Wedding Collection pair because of the swans. They are "cute" but not a classic style that everyone would love. It''s a nice idea to pass down the toasting flutes to your children and their children, etc but if you want to do that, look for a classic style without any emblems. Your kids might not like swans...

Crown, thanks for the site! They have the Orrefors Jazz Me flutes. I fell for them a couple of years ago but didn''t buy them. Not that I should buy them now, I just bought 4 flutes...maybe they''ll be on the site for a while. Thank you!

I agree with everyone in regards to getting something you''ll use later on. I can''t believe how cheesy some of the bride/groom sets there are out there!

Anwyays these waterford glasses are pricey but I just love the color. I''m still looking to see if they have a whole set that goes with them. I like color!

Do they seem too much?

Viloet: No I love those! They don''t match my wedding colors though, but I think they are beautiful!

Violet those are awesome!!

I really don't like the design on those.

I got married in 2003 and we registered for (and received) a pair of Waterford flutes...they are cut crystal and have no design on them, and they were about $100 or $120 back then. Well worth it to pay the extra $$ to not have that design on them, IMO.

ETA: just saw you were passing on them - I think that's wise!
