I work for an orginization that processes Medicare claims for the state of New Mexico. I have been here three years, and I am about ready to start looking for the next logical step up the corporate ladder. There is a job as a business analyst that I have applied for now twice, and both times someone else has been chosen over me. I am also pretty sure that the only reason someone else was picked (once from within, once from outside), is because they didn''t like ME as a person well enough. The second time I applied, I didn''t even get to take the required test that was needed to be allowed into the department - the manager called me in and told me they were not going to do it because they "found someone they liked better for the job."

This is absolute BS, because it has always been mandatory to take this test. You have to prove you deserve the job by knowing the computer system we work with. I had been studying for months because I knew the job was going to open up soon, and then they denied me the test, and gave the job to someone from the outside that had never even used our system before!

I really want this job, it is sort of like my dream job within this company. I hate starting over someplace new, so I want to stay within. I applied for another job and already had the interview, and I think it went really well, but it isn''t what I''m interested in doing. I want to learn it, and I think I will enjoy it (plus I get away from my moronic co-worker and manager), but what I would really love to do is be a BA.

I just don''t know if I should bother applying again if the position opens up. They just fired someone I was friends with (the only person in that department that knows me at all, and unfortunatly had no input from my interview) because she had serious time issues and called in all the time. I am pretty sure the position will open up in a month or less...but should I even bother when they clearly just don''t want to give me a chance?

My answer: absolutely.

DITTO!

What''s it going to hurt?

You certainly won''t get it if you don''t try.

Good Luck!

Did you express your desire to be a BA to the manager?
I think if he understood better that this is your DREAM job, he might be more willing to take a chance on you.

You can request an "exit interview" and ask him what it is he needs or is wanting to see from you (your resume) to be hired in the future. I think eventually he will see that you are serious about this job and will be serious about you.

Him just saying "We like someone better" doesn''t tell you what you need to do to make yourself a desireable candidate for the job.

It''s a woman, and I have said in every interview I have had with the department (they all sit in for the interview and ask questions - since they have to work pretty close, they need to know the person hired) that I would LOVE this job, it is EXACTLY what I want, it would be a DREAM....blahblahblah. She definitly knows. I think there is some prejudice going on though, and since I can''t prove it, I probably won''t ever get in. It''s a group of younger girls and I kind of get the vibe in every interview that I''m not "cute" or "witty" enough - they are all the queens of snappy comebacks.

I don''t know. I want this job so bad, and I even asked a former BA what he did to get the job, and he didn''t have to jump through nearly as many hoops as I have. He didn''t even study for the test and I studied for MONTHS.

Thats tough

I think you should apply and if they deny you again before even really considering your qualifications, then maybe it would be time to look for another job that will allow you to make some steps up on the company ladder and allow for growth within the company. I was at a job for far too long without realizing that I could get a better job at a company I LOVE if I just put myself out there, I wish I had job searched much sooner! Good luck, and I think you should give it another shot- keep us updated!

Definitely apply! I understand how frustrated you must feel, and I don''t blame you. It doesn''t seem very fair of your employer to do this to you.

At least give it one more shot, and if they still won''t even give you a chance, maybe start looking somewhere else. ((((HUGS)))) and good luck!

I say apply!! Persistance can pay off especially if they are now lacking other people for the position. If you don''t get it a third time and there isn''t much room for advancement...then it might be time to look outside the company...

Thank you for the support ladies! I think I will apply :)

I am pretty sure I will get the other position I applied for, even though it isn''t quite as high up the ladder as the BA position is. But it will gain me some experience I can use later to hopefully climb even higher, and if I get the BA position it won''t be for awhile yet. :)

If you don''t apply the answer is absolutely "NO". I think if they are looking for snappy comebacks, then I would do the snappy comebacks. I am SURE you can do it. When I applied to medicine, I knew EXACTLY what they were looking for and it wasn''t me. I gave them what they wanted (even though I acted like a total stranger) and I got in.

If this is your dream job, you have to go for it. Keep us updated!

Definitely go for it! The worst that can happen is they say "no" again, and you''ve already heard that before so no big deal right? Don''t give up, espeically if it''s your DREAM job! I agree with ally about giving them what they want. You might feel like you''re faking it, but that''s not what will be important once you start the job. Do what you have to do to get in, and then prove yourself by your stellar performance rather than by being "witty" or "snappy"
Good luck!!!
