Hello to everyone! My DH and I just got back last weekend from our trip to Scotland. We had a lovely time, and I really miss it. It was so beautiful there!

I wanted to thank everyone who helped us plan our trip, Jennifer W, Movie Zombie, JewelFreak, Rainwood, Jazzoboe and PartGypsy. All of you gave such good advice and wonderful recommendations.

I have tons of pictures, just none at work so I can't post any right now. But we really packed a lot into 5 short days!

We landed at 8AM in Edinburgh Monday morning and got our rental car and proceeded through Stirling, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Glen Coe (where we had to stop at a scenic overlook and sleep for an hour, becuase we did not sleep at all on the plane  ), Fort Williams where we found our way into Glen Nevis and hiked to the Steall Falls (and we did the wire bridge!), and then finally, on to the Isle of Skye. We didn't get to our B&B until 830PM and we had been up for about 38 hours at that point.

The following day we hiked the Old Man of Storr, then drove around Skye visiting the Fairy Glen, the Coral Beach at Claigan, and Neist Point. One of the highlights of our trip was getting stuck in a herd of sheep on the Old Man of Storr as well as in our car at Neist Point. Those sheep on the mountain were pretty disgruntled, and those sheep dogs are no joke! They know how to get their job done!

We left Skye on Wednesday and took the ferry. Stopped at Traigh Beach and the Glenfinnan Viaduct to snap some photos, then pressed on to the Spean Bridge Woolen Mills. Drove through to Stirling again and then to Edinburgh, where we arrived again around 8PM.

Thursday we crossed over to England to visit the Alnwick Castle, which I'm glad we did because it was really nice to see all the history, and pretty neat that the family lives there. Unfortunately is was pretty nasty weather, but that didn't slow us down. We had lunch at a really great little cafe, then returned to Edinburgh and walked around the city for a while.

Friday we spent in Edinburgh, visited the Edinburgh Castle which we liked a lot as well. Walked around for at least 10 miles that day. Enjoyed a nice peaceful hour sipping tea and espresso in Costa, then decided to be double decker tourists.

Needless to say, we were pretty shattered at the end of our trip. We did so much in such a short amount of time, but we had so much fun. Scotland is so beautiful! When we return, it will definitely be to the highlands and Skye. We loved that area and really enjoyed hiking and seeing the land. We are not huge on cities, so Edinburgh while fun, was definitely not where we would want to spend a lot of time. For those of you that live in Scotland, you are very fortunate to be surrounded by so much beauty. And highland cows ;)) .

Thanks again to those that helped us out!

Yay, so glad you had a good time! Funny, I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering how your trip went. Did you get your photos of Stirling Bridge?

Thanks Jennifer! I forgot to mention that the food in Scotland is amazing, and your public bathrooms are far superior to those in America.

We went out of our way to get a picture or two of that bridge because my brother requested it. When we showed it to him, he was like "Oh is that it?" I looked at him for a minute, then responded, "I don't know, you tell me." He was so wrapped up in that damn bridge, and we went out of our way to find it for him (when you don't really know what you are looking for, that bridge is sort of difficult to find), and he didn't even know what it looked like! I could kill him  .

You will love Scotland! If you can, I would highly recommend Tigh An Dochais B&B on the Broadford Bay in the Isle of Skye. This place was unbelievable! My husbands jaw hit the floor when we walked into our room and were greeted by the sun setting over the bay right outside our deck. I hope to go back there someday (soon). The owner makes a mean breakfast too. Some of the best food I've ever eaten.

Those highland cows are the best! Although, I think they might get haircuts around this time of year. We saw quite a few, but only a handful with the typical hairy look.

I'll bet Orkney is beautiful! I really hope to get back someday soon.

That looks lovely, but I don't think we will be heading that way! Actually I don't know where we're heading yet. We start at Edinburgh and leave from Glasgow. My husband wants to do the whisky thing, and we decided to do Islay another time, so it's probably Speyside for us, but I have done no research yet, ugh!

Ah. I don't know about any other areas. We did stay at the Ballantrae Albany Hotel in Edinburgh. It was in the New Town section, and was a great value for that area...if you stayed in the executive double. Some of the other rooms I walked by while they were being cleaned looked a little..... :errrr: But we had a good stay there. Although I'm not quite sure how it has a four star rating, it was a great central location and I really can't complain.

Prana -

I'm so glad you had a great time! The Highlands were my favorite part too. The hairy cows are a sight to behold.

Thanks Rainwood. The highlands were extremely beautiful. And those cows! They just bring a smile to your face every time! haha.
