Since I started coming to PS, we joined Costco. In Alabama, most people go to Sam''s Club. Even though I HATE Wal-Mart''s practices, I sure do miss the 24 hour thing. Back home, Target and Wally World stay open 24 hours.

I think It was because of Skippy and SDL that I decided to join Costco.

We''ve been Costco people for years and years, although the thrill of buying everything in magambo sizes has worn off. We''re just to people and two furbabies. We go far less than we did.

People who are concerned with Chinese sweatshops should do more than boycott Sams/WalMart. Try to eliminate all Chinese products

Not sure if you are making a funny or not...but my issues with Walmart go way way beyond Chinese sweatshops.

Even if LOVED buying things made in Chinese sweatshops, I would refuse to give Walmart another dime of my money. They treat their employees in the US very poorly, try to get around laws made to help disabled people get jobs (for example, I''m sure you all remember the Walmart Memo where they discussed making sure that getting carts from outside was in all of their job descriptions so that they could get around hiring individuals protected by the Americans With Disabilities Act and not be legally liable), the manner in which they drive out small business, and of course, the fact that use sweatshops around the world.

And see, here''s my thing on Walmart.

There is no doubt their prices are lower...for all of the foregoing shady reasons. And I understand why those on very tight budgets would feel compelled to take advantage of those low prices...

But I am ethically opposed to the company. And because DH and I do not have to shop there to make ends meet, I will not do so.

walmart has actively not paid a living wage and relied upon the state and federal government to pick up the costs of healthcare, food stamps, etc. because they don''t want to pay a living wage but pay stockholders instead. i''m not against a company making a profit and paying the stockholders, but geez they should have to bear the entire costs for their business....and they don''t. welfare for the rich = walmart.

Im impressed with your knowlege on this subject...thanks for sharing.A company that expects its employees to depend on the state assistance for care is evil ... well said...your statement is literally true...especially in large states like California.
