I uploaded the pictures from our honeymoon at the Excellence resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic!!!
We had an amazing time! We really felt like we were living like millionaires in the lap of luxury. Now, keep in mind that DH and I are not big travelers and also not big spenders, so staying at an all inclusive was definitely a new experience for us!
The resort itself was gorgeous! Both the pools and the beach were beautiful, although if you didn''t get to either early, it was hard to get towels and good spots. Also, the water was a little rough right where we were, but a few minutes walk down the beach was a natural lagoon with no waves.
The food was fantastic according to our standards! There were 7 restaurants to choose from for dinner, including French, European, Italian, Mexican, Asian, American Grill, Lobster, and a Pizza place. We didn''t end up going to the French or the European places because after looking at the menues, we decided we weren''t that adventurous, but we loved every place we tried. For lunch, you could go to a buffet, or to the American Grill place to get burgers, etc. They had a mahi mahi fillet that was to die for! Breakfast was a buffet that we didn''t really care for, but we were good on fruit and bagels.
We spent most of our week lounging at the beach or one of the pools, napping, eating, and drinking. We did do one excursion where we drove our own speedboat out to a larger boat, where we then got outfitted to snorkel, but our resort was pretty in the middle of nowhere and the roads were terrible, so the trip there (imagine, an hour in a half in the back of a truck on bench seats breathing nothing but exhaust as we bumped over potholes as big as a car) was enough to discourage us from doing any other trips.
We also did horseback riding at the resort, and there were shows every night. Our favorite was a super cheesy Michael Jackson show, but there were also some great musical acts and dancing, and even a circus!
Although I''ve been to the Caribbean before, I was still pretty surprised at how developing the DR was. It was mostly open fields with roaming livestock for miles in between little towns of apartments, small shopping centers, bars, and lottery kiosks. I was sad that we didn''t get to learn more about the culture and heritage while we were there, but the language barrier was kinda difficult. But overall, we had a really relaxing and fabulous time! And now...on with the pictures! This is on the airplane on the way there, and yes, I really did cut off all my hair (donated it!)
