Of course I don''t expect you to REALLY understand why I made such a big deal out of a TOOL without knowing us. But I do feel better already, so thanks for the sarcasms!
Is there any irony in these two comments? Oh sorry, I already said that. Doh.

Zhuzhu,

Ya had a bad day no?? We all have them. I don''t like how you are being treated in this thread though....

It''s sooooo not about the stinking ruler is it....

Hoping you and the co worker work it out, or just avoid her going forward as much as you can.....

I was thinking about this in the shower too, and I think for your sake a little communication could have gone a long way, or at least made you even more justified to be pisssed lol When you overheard her and you said here you can use it, adding a "I am not finished with it but am happy to let you borrow it for a bit if you could please return it to me when you''re done."

I shouldn''t read ps before taking a shower - geeze I couldn''t stop thinking about several threads lol

And, and I told Don too, because they''ve moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn''t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it''s not okay because if they take my stapler then I''ll set the building on fire...
Hysterical.

I just . . . I haven''t been around PS a lot lately, but this I got the best laugh from this. I cannot stop picturing married squirrels! Oh my gosh I''m so loopy . . .

Zhuzhu,

You are very gracious to have such a good sense of humour about it, and about this thread!

This thread is funny! Coworkers are
14.gif
. I have had plenty of petty reasons to not like some of them over the years.

I think this is way more than the ruler problem. I am totally with you on annoying co-workers, story of my life. It is worse than high school. I am serious!

I think it depends on how the workplace is run.
I worked in a company in which each of us got a complete set of office supplies and there was an unlocked cabinet kept stocked with replacements.
Many people put their name on things like staplers.

Their philosophy was labor is expensive and they want us working productively, not spending 30 minutes looking for a 99 cent ruler or quibbling about the small stuff.
There was a sense of ownership of these items, at least while at work.
If someone borrowed my ruler I'd expect it back.

I imagine other companies are less generous with such things and expect people to share.

This is how my husband''s work is - generally. but here in China they just have a different philosophy... if it''s there they''ll take it to use and everyone else does the same which drives all of the americans nuts here.

ZhuZhu I totally get you, and well done for taking this thread in your stride! There''s this guy at work yesterday who took a biscuit. From the community biscuit pool. Totally reasonable thing to do, but but...he never buys biscuits!! Gah, and he never makes the coffee, always takes the last cup and leaves it empty, and just never contributes
29.gif
. So I know how you feel, it''s the last straw.

And Smurfy, I don''t mean for this to sound condescending, but I''ve noticed such a huge change in you around here, and have much admiration. Good for you

I would have serious worries about working for a company that can't afford to buy rulers for every employee. They'll be asking the employees to bring their own toilet paper next.

Zhu: Was it an office ruler that belonged to you? That is, office stationery that you claimed? It it isn''t, then she might''ve just thought you were done with it. I can see how if you''re already annoyed with someone, every thing they do will bug you...been there, done that!

What kind of chintzy a** office only has ONE ruler ... when doing the kind of business that has two people looking for rulers at any one time??? Can this POSSIBLY be efficient??? The time spent wandering the halls cooing "Ruler? Ruler?" could CERTAINLY be better spent, no???

Love the Office Space refs in this thread. Don''t understand the Dramz ... usually folks cut a non-serial-complainer a break when voicing a seemingly petty complaint or two. Perhaps you should have gone ANON Zhu.

Zhu, it''s OK . . . I think I understand. This is about WAAAAY more than the ruler, isn''t it?
5.gif

There''s a person at my office who is UNBELIEVABLY inconsiderate. He literally commits about 20 random acts of rudeness every day. Sometimes, I''m OK with the first 19 things and I''m able to just let them slide. Then, Thing #20 is just IT!!! It may be a pretty minor infraction, but it''s the TWENTIETH DAMN THING he''s done to piss me off that day, so by that point I just want to SCREAM!!!!!
29.gif

I kind of assume that this isn`t the first incident, and more like the final straw! I don`t really see the problem in this example either, but if someone is repeatedly annoying or rude it doesn`t take much to interpret their actions that way again

HI:

Gotcha. In retrospect, I should have done that. But the comment of "getting what one deserves" seemed out of sinc with the "ruler offense" and I took it at face value. Everything is "kidding" after the fact.

I''ve been a part of PS for so many years and one would think that I do "get" communication on an Internet board. Clearly I do not and I inadvertantly offended.

good-bye folks!

Sharon
