Does anyone have one of these, or know anything about them? These are the stick-built homes that are shipped as one complete finished home (as opposed to two or more pieces that are joined together on site), including cabinetry, paint, lighting, etc. They are supposed to be built stronger than the average site-built home to withstand the move. I have tried to find reviews online but only seem to be coming up with builders that sell them - and i''d really like an independent review.

Not sure I have much more information than you already have but my husband and I have looked at a few and were very pleasantly surprised. We stopped by just on a whim (we were driving around house hunting) but after seeing the inside of one and hearing all the customization options we really started thinking about one. They are reasonably priced BUT by the time you factor in the cost of land I''m not sure how it compares to just buying land and building a house the old fashioned way. I think it could be a good option for people who may already own land or have family land.

As far as how structurally sound the houses are I don''t really know. We were told that they were safer than average homes because they must be built to federal standards versus state standards (which vary). We were also told that some of this has to do with the age of the house.... this sort of house would be comprable to other houses buildt in 2008 but would be safer than a home built in say 1980. Since this salesman probably worked on commission I really can''t say how true that information was. I did some research online but really couldn''t find anything.

That''s good to know about the pricing. We could get land fairly cheap from where we would build, so that wouldn''t be much of an issue. I am in Canada so the prices may be different, but I imagine they would have to be as good or better than site built homes or no one would buy them. We haven''t looked at any yet but may go down to see a few this weekend.

Anyone else have one/know someone who has one/looked into them? tia!
