Roof/House Color Dilemma

Help me PS'ers!!!

I don't know why I didn't come in here first. I have been obsessing over the last month (and need to make a decision) over the stucco color for my house. Had I known, or learned beforehand, I would have realized that I should have picked out the color of the roof/stucco color before the roof went on. Instead, I just let the contractor put up the same roof he has on his house. GAF Timberline "Weathered Wood" color.

The problem is that my stucco wall in front of the house, does not go well with the roof color. Big mistake on my part (and my contractors) for not telling me that until after the roof was up.

I can either find a great stucco color to go with the roof and restucco the front wall to match....or use a synthetic paint in my stucco to get any color on the outside, but they may not be able to restucco the wall with that because they are not sure if the stucco wall in front is water proof and they are afraid that it would seep water and peel off the retaining wall.

So, I have to find a good rich color to go with the roof. I don't like when the stucco looks better wet (as it turned out with my retaining wall...love it when it's wet, hate it when it's dry). It looks thirsty. I don't want my house to look thirsty.

My research has shown that a color with olive/green undertones is the best with this roof color. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I'm clueless.....

I prefer dark roofs (blacks, dark grays, dark browns). What a PITA!

Oh, it's dark, but it isn't black. It isn't really brown. It's like a dark brown/grey that's bespeckled. It's supposed to be a very popular color choice now. So why the heck is it so hard to pick a house color? I've been online for over a week, scoured through neighborhoods with paint swatches.

I think you'd do well with a neutral earthy tone. A moss green would be pretty, or maybe a lighter cream type color or beige>?

I used to build custom homes...and I'm vaguely familiar with that shingle color

I'm kinda confused about why your contractors wouldn't know what you could or couldn't do in regards
to the stucco. What other materials are on the house or is it all stucco?

I may be able to help a little. I had my house reroofed in that exact color. It is really nice. The reason it was recommended is because we have live oaks, a canopy of them with hanging Spanish Moss. I was told this is the best color to resist/not show stains from the trees. Dark green trim would have been my first choice for my windows, but they are vinyl, so they never need painting. I went with white, because it was cheaper than a custom color. My house is tabby. Tabby is stucco, but it has a lot of oyster shells ground into it. Here you can see the oysters in the tabby in the background. That is the side of my house. So, the creams and greys of the oysters mixed into the grey stucco are quite nice against the roof color. They literally mixed ground up charcoal into my stucco to get the color right. It was not charcoal for cooking. It was a charcoal that stucco companies use. I think you are on the right track with the olives/ greens in general. Most of the windows on the nicer homes and buildings in my area use that color. I just could not because of the expense.

Actually, that was sort of deliberate. They are all going to have jewelry. Just overlook the jewelry. See that tile under the jewelry? That is my stucco, only on the ground as tile. Let me see if I can find one of the Wall. Sorry, It is still going to have a ring in it. I am not about to go out there and take a photo of the side of my house. Here we go. I think you can see the oysters clearly in this one.

My husband's a contractor and he used to use GAF roofing shingles, so I'm familiar with the colors. Here's your Weathered Wood miracles. It's predominantly grey with the slightist tinge of olivish green. PT's suggestion are right. An oyster beige would do it for you. A beige with both a slight gray and slight greenish cast to it.

Our roof is brownish and the house is a taupe color. I like the idea of gray and a moss green together-sounds really pretty to me!

I really find that oyster tabby thing completely novel. I even looked it up on the Internet and found that it isn't very popular over here on the west coast.I am going to ask my contractor about it tomorrow.

Color matching is such a stressful thing because in the case of stucco, if it comes out crappy, you have to paint the whole thing over again, which defeats the purpose. Stucco breathes but paint doesn't. When my back is against the wall and I have to choose, I hope I choose wisely.

I did meet an architect on eharmony and he even brought me the paint swatches for the outside of West Elm. I was having trouble identifying the greenish and grayish brown of their buildings. He offered to provide his opinion if I sent him a picture of the house. I only met him last week, but I think I can trust him. Yikes.

And um...no....hate home renovations. I don't have the talent nor the stomach for it. Blech.

I just had my roof done this fall. Our house is an Electric Blue with white trims and shutters. We decided to have the grey/blue speckled asphalt shingles... I think I have a color swatch left at home showing sample colors... Do you want me to take a pic of it and upload it here for you to see?

Yellow tones work pretty well. I have yellow/brown sandstone stone slab "bricks" and your shingles. Looks pretty decent. I'll try to take a pic or two and post it somewhere you can see it this evening.
