Hi Everyone
I am taking my girlfriend to cirque du soleil on saturday aug 3 at 8pm and hope to take her to a romantic restaurant before the show. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Unfortunately I'm in the bad books already for this because I double booked her on this night (she was supposed to visit with some of her friends from far away :S )

I would recommend a restaurant in Toronto called: RAIN
Hello, I live in Toronto!

If you like really unique food - beautifully decorated and prepared by a celebrity chef (well celebrity in our world) then I would recommend a restaurant called Rain. They have a show on the Food Network called: Made to order. It''s really worthwhile and fabulous. It''s in the heart of Toronto near all the theatres.

Trendy and stylish, Rain combines breathtaking interior design with exceptional, Asian inspired cuisine. Situated in what was once Toronto''s first women''s prison, design firm II by IV have transformed this concrete space into a thrilling combination of 15 foot waterfalls, backlit frosted glass, and bamboo dividers.

The menu features a combination of original seafood and meat dishes, served on dishes composed of slate slabs, river rocks, and Japanese pottery, followed by equally unique desserts. The wine list consists of affordable selections from California, Italy, and Australia. Service is Warm and professional. Pan-Asian menu includes fire-roasted Japanese sirloin, salmon teriyaki and Peking Muscovy duck.

Do not be alarmed if you are not interested in Asian inspired cuisine - they have meat dishes and many alternatives. You can let the chef know if you are allergic to something - if you prefer a certain type of meat - love or hate fish - and they will change the meal to your liking. The food is so trendy - it''s almost a crime to eat it! You have two options. You can order multiple dishes from the menu or go for the Chefs choice - we enjoyed the Chef''s choice because you get at least 5 courses and it''s fun not to know what''s coming next. You can at this time let the Chef know that "by the way - I don''t like raw fish or I don''t eat meat - and they will personalize your meal to your liking. It''s so fantastic!

Average cost per person including tip is roughly $70-90 Canadian. Well worth the cost since it''s really tasty and so posh! Not only does it look good but it''s sooooo great. I hated raw oysters but they gave us each a raw oyster with apple foam - it''s was so tasty and I don''t even like oysters. The fish (I''m more of a meat eater) was out of this world and served on a stone with complimentary sauces...any-who, I''m rambling. I''m just so excited for you...

Hi
I forgot to mention that the same owners of Rain (restaurant), Chef Michael and Guy Rubino also owns a Italian inspired restuarant named: Luce (across the street from Rain) it''s also great!
Luce phone: 416-599-5823

Enjoy!

sounds like something we''d like....perhaps we''ll get the chance to check it out next week before movie madness begins.

There is also a place called "NOSE'' it is supposed to be amazing... there is no sign on the door with the name... only a figure of a nose coming out of the wall.. It is only supposed be opening Thursday-Sat.. and it is run by some famous gourmet chef and restuarnt owner.. apparently some culinery artist.

I don''t think the nose place is still in business. It was in the Beaches area of Toronto. Don''t remember seeing it, the last time I was there.

Hello - can you tell that we like to eat!!!! :-)

We also enjoyed a restaurant called: Tundra...amazing wine selection and interesting meat dishes.

I''ve been to the nose restaurant. It''s down town TO not in the beaches. I did not enjoy the restaurant as much...it was quite expensive and for the same amount I think you can do better...it''s still fun...just not my personal favourite.
The nose restaurant is called: Gio''s - small Italian restaurant on the west side of Yonge Street, just north of Davisville subway station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Sometimes, it''s referred to as ''the big nose'' owing to the large, pink, fibreglass nose hanging above the door.

Sorry, I missed this thread. I highly recommend a place called Spuntinin''s on Avenue Road just north of Yorkville Ave. It''s not in the theatre district so a bit further than you wanted to go tonight I''m sure but you may want to check it out at some point. There''s also another famous place right underneath it called Sotto Sotto. I''ve never been, but apparently its quite well known for both food & ambiance. Spuntini''s is very small, very intimate & feels like you''re in a small villa. The walls are fauz painted stucco & the lighting is low. Ok, the cost is high, but the lighting is low.

Thats the tradeoff.

The final verdict was to go to the Strand on victoria st.
It was a really nice looking restaurant with about 4/5 good atmosphere. The steak was 8.5/10 the snow pea soup was 1/10 and the service was excellent bordering excessive. It was a pricey place and none of their prices on the current menu reflected the prices on their website (They are MORE expensive) as well the menu is smaller in the actual restaurant compared to on the internet. The only meat they offered was steak. (This was highly dissappointing)

The Cirque Du Soleil was amazing! and I highly recommend people to see it if they haven''t already!
I must say there was something wrong with our food because about 2.5-3 hours after we ate we both started to get nauseous. I think next time I''ll stick to a restaurant I know. Total tab for the bill for the restaurant was $130 (not including wine or desert).
Thanks for all your suggestions. Most of the places were booked up by the time I called. But I will definitely keep them in mind for next time.
