Hi there! I am a nursing student and recently got engaged with a very high setting. I know we aren''t suppose to wear our rings, but I see so many nurses with tons of rings on of all shapes and sizes! So I would like to know what you all do about your rings while on the clock. Thank you in advance!!

I''m not a nurse, but I''ve seen female nurses (at the hospital where my dad works and during clinic visits of my own) with their rings on a chain around their neck or wrist.

I''m an RN and I work in a hospital and I wear my e-ring and w-band as well as a RHR to work 48hrs a week. No one has ever said not to wear it. I enjoy having it on my finger and if something happens....well that is what I pay a yearly insurance premium for!

So unless there is a policy at your facility or school you are not allowed tothen I say wear it if that is what you want. If you don''t want to wear it I would leave it at home the safe and I do not trust a chain to hold it and I would be worried a confused pt would rip it off my neck. I''ve seen that happen with those around the neck badge holders!!

Thank you guys! I will take those recommendations into account!

I know of a person who lost their e-ring working in a dental office, she''s not sure exactly how, but assumed it came off in her glove and she threw it away, but noticed it too late to check the trash, I guess (cos I would''ve sifted threw everything!!) It was $10K !

there was a previous thread about wearing rings at work as an MD--I think this is it: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/good-settings-for-medical-professionals.62096/

Anyway--I don''t wear my rings at work in the dental office, just too much washing of hands and taking the gloves off and catching the ring on them. My legato head looks delicate to me and I was afraid it might bend/break. I wore mine twice after I upgraded my ring and that was it. I still run upstairs and put my ring on when I come home from work.

I''m an RN and i wear my ring all the time... well at least the last 2 shifts since i just got it..LOL but everyone here at work wears their ring with no issues.... just be careful when you remove those gloves.

Hi minky!

I''m an RN in an operating theatre suite, and I wear my rings to work every day. When I have to scrub I put them on a heavy chain I wear around my neck. I''ve seen nurses pin them to their bras with a heavy duty safety pin too, so they''re still attached to their bodies when they take their scrubs off to go home, just in case they forget about them! I''ve seen several ladies lose their rings down the laundry chute, never to be seen again

I have a highish set 3 stone claw set ring and don''t have any problems putting gloves on and taking them off with it on.

Oh and by the way, congratulations on your engagement, and all the best with your studies and training!!

I''m also an RN in a PICU and I wear mine to work. Almost everyone that I work with does too. They don''t allow the nurses in the NICU to wear theirs to work, and most of them either wear them on a chain on pin them to the inside of their pocket. That really makes me nervous though, if I couldn''t wear it at work I would leave it at home.

it really depends on where you are working. there are plenty of areas where wearing a ring(s) is perfectly fine and others where it would be hazardous. because of where i work, i don''t wear my rings. i have seen people pin them on their scrubs with safety pins, tie them in their shoelaces and put them on chains among other things. i''m not comfortable doing any of those things, so i leave them at home. if you end up working in an area where it is safe to wear your rings, go for it! (just keep them clean!!)

HI:

Congrats on your engagement! Your ring sounds beautiful.

Having taught in a Nursing Baccalaureate program I am familiar with (our) dress policy in clinical settings--and would be very surpised if you were allowed to wear anything but a plain wedding band. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I know of situations where students who did not follow their school''s dress policy were sent home from the clinical area: hence I recommend you read the rules and regulations outlined by your program and if in doubt, ask your clinical instructor.

cheers--Sharon

I''m an RN and although I don''t have an engagement/wedding ring (yet), I wouldn''t recommend wearing it to the hospital for clinicals or work. Three nurses on my unit have lost diamonds from their rings or their entire ring in the last year and a half. I work on very busy inpatient units and most nurses and doctors wear simple bands to work and keep their e-rings at home. To me it just wouldn''t be worth the risk to wear an e-ring at a busy, dirty job :) when your hands are covered in gloves most of the day anyway! I''d leave it at home to be safe.. it will make it that much more special when you do get the chance to wear it outside of work.
