I have an iPOD touch that has died, I only use it to watch movies or shows when I am on the elliptical at the gym. The size is perfect but I don't want another one but I don't know what else to buy??

I'm not sure why you don't want a new one- it's even better than th one I have. I also don't know
what you could replace it with. If you like the size and playing movies/ shows you get that with flash memory / no moving parts. Look at the new ones- I'd like one. Have no idea what is the same or better for you. I suspect that's why you haven't received any replies.

I agree...why not get another ipod touch? They're pretty awesome, and the new ones even have a front-facing camera. I'm the last person in the world to give Apple free advertising considering that I prefer Android over iPhone and PC over Mac, but I have to say that they do things right with all the ipod models, especially the touch.

But if it's a relatively inexpensive mp3 player without the ipod branding that you're looking for, the SanDisk ones get pretty good reviews, and I think the Fuze can play videos:

You could also consider a small Android tablet if it doesn't need to fit in your pocket.

I guess I should have explained that it has been a royal pain trying to download my current DVD's and then I even went ahead and bought them from itunes and then my computer crashed and well I don't feel like taking days to download everything again. I would just like something simpler. Plus every apple product I have ever bought dies out after 2 years.
I have a Beo player which I absolutely LOVE for music at the gym, the sound it incredible and it is so easy to download music and is compatible with everything, unlike Apple.

We have had quite a few ipod touch in our house with all the kids we have had. They seem to last 2 years. One of my kids, my DH and I
have gone back to the classic. They never seem to die and hold a lot more. The screen is smaller, but the trade off is that they last sooo
much longer. Other than that, I would just go back to the touch for watching movies. Just be prepared to replace the thing like a cell phone.

My friends and I have had this very same discussion many times...I SWEAR I think that Apple products (maybe not the computers, but all of the ipods) have an auto self-destruct feature that kicks in exactly at the 2 year mark.

That's all I had to add :)

How weird, maybe I've just been lucky? I still have the first ipod I bought in 2004, a pink ipod mini. The battery only lasts 10 minutes but I leave it permanently plugged into a dock/alarm clock. But I did use it just about every day until I got my ipod touch in 2008. Now I use that every day. My husband and daughter got ipod touches in 2009 that they still use (so only two years ago, we'll have to wait and see). Oh, and I got my husband the original ipod nano when they first came out and just this year it was recalled for a new battery -- the product is 6 years old! He hasn't used it much since he got the itouch a couple years ago, but that was still 4 years of use.

Interesting. I have had the same nano for 5 years and enjoy it. The battery life is amazing. I got my kids ipod touches for Hannukah and I admit to taking one out of the box and playing around with it. Its really cool. Thank goodness for the reset to factory settings button so he won't know (sneaky mom I know :) ) But he is 9 so even if he found out I know he would just laugh about it.

Hopefully they will last longer than 2 years. I splurged on getthing them for my kids because we have had a rough year. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if someone dropped theirs first and ruined it. I did get inexpensive shock resistant cases too.

Are you looking for an MP3 player? My SIL has a Sony and likes it a lot.

Yeah, I agree...just get another ipod touch and replace it when it needs to be. We have both a touch and a classic...the classic is mine and I use for music...the screen is REALLY small and I can't imagine watching a movie on it.
