Religious Gay Conversion Camp Expose'

I could not agree more Matata. Are these the camps that Pence is supposedly in favor of?

Yes. Although there's some controversy about whether he's in favor or not (I think with his record it's pretty freaking clear what he thinks..but I digress). Here's an article about it on Politifact.
http://www.politifact.com/california/statements/2016/dec/02/gavin-newsom/pences-support-conversion-therapy-not-settled-matt/

EDIT: for anyone who doesn't want to read the link. Here's their conclusion .

Our ruling

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom said Indiana Governor and now Vice President-Elect Mike Pence "advocated for diverting taxpayer dollars to so-called conversion therapy."

Pence’s own words on his campaign website from 2000, specifically a passage that calls for funding groups that give "assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior," have been interpreted by LGBT advocates as supporting the controversial practice.

Pence’s statement, however, does not explicitly mention conversion therapy. Readers and other fact-checking outlets have said Pence may have been calling for safer sexual sexual practices rather than pushing for efforts to change one’s sexual orientation.

When asked about the statement in July, Pence’s spokesman Marc Lotter did not directly answer whether the Indiana governor supports the practice. Months later, Lotter strongly denied that Pence supports conversion therapy and said Pence was calling for funds to "be directed to groups that promoted safe sexual practices"

Given Pence’s strong and extensive opposition to LGBT rights, his words in 2000 have been widely interpreted as supporting the controversial practice. Rea Carey, executive director of the National L.G.B.T.Q. Task Force, has called them "a dog whistle" for like-minded supporters of conversion therapy.

Newsom’s definitive claim, however, that Pence advocated for conversion therapy is not fully supported.

We rate it Half True.

Disgusting! How is this NOT criminal? :knockout: :knockout: :knockout: :errrr:

I completely agree with you Matata, Callie and lovedogs.
Lovedogs, thanks for that info.

I agree Missy this is criminal. How on earth do they manage to stay open? The parents who send their children here should be stripped of their parental rights. This is abuse and should be treated the same as all other cases of child abuse are.

I'm not pretending I know everything about US law but I am pretty sure that if Pence diverts funding to that then he is violating separation of church and state, something that is stated clearly in the US Constitution that he cannot do.

What, no straight conversion camp?
I went to the camp that was in the movie Camp.
It was very campy

Because America considers two things to be sacred, parenthood and religion.

Both have absolute power over "THEIR" children and get to do just about anything they want ... unchallenged, unregulated, and unsupervised. :knockout:

Yes, let's thank religion for that. I read that one of the foremost conversion camp leaders has just died. It's too bad his enterprise will be taken over and continued by one of his disciples.

My son's hair is long-ish, he's two, and certain family members have remarked that it could possibly make him girlish or gay if I keep it that way. I feel sorry for them.

This day and age, I can't believe people still give a hoot about who consenting adults decide to have sex with. And we call ourselves evolved.

It is more serious than merely shameful. Several kids have killed themselves after "gay conversion" therapy. No psychiatric research ever showed gay conversion to work.

Any parent who sends a child to one of these places should lose custody permanently and be prosecuted for emotional abuse.

As the mother to an amazing son who happens to be gay, I am horrified that these types of places exist. I am lucky to have such a loving, sweet, smart, amazing son. I wouldn't change anything about him. I am thankful that we live in a community where he is able to be open about who he is and doesn't feel like he has to hide. I can't imagine the pain children/teens/young adults must feel to be rejected by their families because of how they were born. These types of places should be illegal and there should be consequences for parents who send their children to them.
