Hey there!! Pleaz help I hav had strep throat 7 times I am trying a new antibiotic Azithromycin! Problem is my 4 year old has trailed along with the seventh positive strep! Any1 no why this is happening. Is it my dautr giving it 2 me. Dunno wat else 2 do... Should I remov her tonsils?

I'd see an Otolayrngologist, (SP?) A doctor who specializes in the Ears nose and throat. Having your tonsils removed as an adult is very painful. But if you are having lots of positive streps then it might be the way to go. I feel for you, I had them as a teenager constanlty. I hade them out, very painful but never had strep again. My daughter is 20 and since being in college has had more than her fair share of Strep. Let us know what you find out, and good luck!!!

ETA: I read too quickly you were asking about having her tonsils out? 4 seems young to do so, but what do I know. Take her to a specialist.

Just so you know, this is mostly a diamond forum so most of us are just regular people. I would go to a doctor for real advice of course. Wasn't sure if you knew that since this is your first post on this website. =)

Just as a question though, you ARE finishing the entire course of antibiotics right? If you don't finish the entire prescription it can come back worse again and again because you don't kill off all the bacteria.

medical advice is tough on line, but you could be a carrier for strep. this means that you will usually test positive because strep happens to hang out on your tonsils, but it isn't actually the cause of the sore throat. the best way to figure that out is to be tested when you're totally well. if you still test positive then you're a carrier. if that's the case, it's not bad or dangerous at all and doesn't need to be erradicated.

are you having cultures done or just the rapid strep? a culture would be helpful because they not only grow out and identify the bacteria (as group a strep, for example), but also can test the sensitivities of the bacteria against several antibiotics. that way you can take the one that works the best against your particular bacteria. azithromycin isn't the greatest choice for strep, by the way.

my last thought... do you have a dog? if you do, take the dog to a vet and have him/her tested. dogs can definitely pass strep around with their licking. either way, get yourself and your daughter to an ent (ear, nose or throat specialist).
