I have several small scratches and dings on my platinum solitaire, and the v prongs at the tips of the marquise have become a little blunted at the tips from impact (clumsy me dropped the ring on a concrete patio when a friend asked to see it). I am going to call the local jeweler who sold me the setting and set my Whiteflash diamond to inquire about getting the marks polished out. What is a typical price range to expect for this type of service?

I would think anywhere from free to about $45, depending on how much trouble it would be to fix the 'V'.

Agreed -- it won't be much. I just had a jeweler do some polishing for free while he was doing some other work for me.

I think the local jeweler I use would do it for free or, at most, about $15 if some actual work was involved.

Thanks for the responses. I have not yet had a chance to leave my office during the jeweler's business hours, but I was hoping the cost would be under $50 (preferably well under).

I was wondering the same thing myself.

When I took the ring in the jeweler said it would be $50. I told him I thought that was pretty expensive just to polish it, and he said that for white gold it would be $20, but platinum is a lot harder to work with. Sounded like BS to me, but I had to get the work done by today, so I'll comparison shop first the next time I need to get scratches polished out.

I dropped the ring off on Tuesday, and I have been going nuts without my precious for the last two days -I just kept looking down at my empty finger. I'm surprised I did not walk into a building returning from the jewelry store to my office just now, because I was watching my baby throw off rainbows in the sunlight the whole walk back. It is very clean and sparkly now, which is good because I want it to look its best this weekend. We are flying to Texas for a wedding, and I can't help thinking there will be a lot of big flashy diamonds there (plus, one of my FI's buddies just bought a 2.3 ct princess for his girl.)

When I was running jobs around Sansom St. it cost the same to polish platinum as it cost to polish white gold. Trade cost at that time was $3.50. At the most now it is $10.00. Who is this guy kidding. He probally has to make a car payment on his Lexus.
