So sometimes, working with antiques, you see some stuff that is just totally mind blowing, in a good way.

Last year this dealer we have at our antique mall was selling a bunch of ephemera- letters, photos- from WWII era. Someone bought a pile of the letters, and then they worked pretty hard to hunt down the descendents of the people who wrote the letters. The woman who he contacted, who''s mother and father had been the letter writers, was thrilled- and she was able to come in and purchase all the ones that were left, as well as getting the ones from the original customer that had gone to the trouble of finding her.

Apparently her son had been getting money from her, and was supposed to use it to pay storage fees on the storage unit she had all her mother''s belongings in. He didn''t pay it, and *everything* went to auction, which is how she lost all the letters (and everything else) in the first place. She was, of course, thrilled to get those letters back.

Anyway, today, about a year later, she came back shopping. I was ringing her up for this cool kitchen hanging spice rack thing- cute little porcelain drawers with handpainted roosters on them for spices, in a wood holder. She explained that she''d been thinking about how the only thing she really still missed out of all the things in the storage unit was her mom''s spice rack. She''d started collecting rooster stuff because she''d loved it so much.

So, it turns out that the rooster spice rack I was wrapping for her, wasn''t just *like* her mom''s, it actually *was* the exact one her mom had owned. That seriously blew me away- apparently the dealer had bought the spice rack from the storage unit auction, and had brought it into our mall for sale. She was over the moon to have gotten it back.

I hate hiring! I had someone drop an application off here and when I walked outside on break, I saw her enormous lifted pickup had a huge vinyl sticker across the front saying "@ss-kicking redneck b!tch" on it. Er. I didn''t save her application. And another guy who filled one out, I googled his name- which I always do- and found a picture on his myspace page of him smoking crack. Nice!

That is so cool! How special for her. It''s a shame she has had to go back out and find the stuff though.

And on the hiring note.... don''t people know that the internet means the are NOT anonymous??
