I couldn't finish reading that thread last night and by the time I finished this morning, of course it was gone. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for all those who are hurting. I believe most of us will go through those times in life, and it is hard. My heart goes out to all of you who are struggling with various things. PriceScope has been a wonderful "escape" for me during those times. I am very thankful for all my PS friends!

My first concern is my dear friend MrsSalvo and their 18 year old Sophie who is recovering from a serious stroke which was posted on the other thread. I am heartbroken for them to go through this. Sophie is their daughter from her husband's first marriage and was young when they were married, so Sophie has 4 wonderful parents who deeply love her. I do hope those of you who pray will pray for her. I wanted to say on the thread that was deleted that good thoughts or dust are wonderful, but healing comes from the One who has the power to do it.

Haven....yes, the educational system here is broken. We are a first world country and can't even get a strong percentage of kids reading by 4th grade. It is shameful. I work with kids who aren't taught to read at school so I see it all the time. Poor reading affects all education in all grades, so it is a huge problem. I will add that charter schools providing competition to public schools has been an excellent thing just as it was when foreign cars and their excellent reliability became competition to American made cars. Our youngest goes to a charter school while the others went to regular and there is a significant difference. But still, we have a long, long way to go. I also do not have much hope in the system as it is today. Not saying any of this to start a debate...those of us who have spent our lives in the system should know.

hugs and healing thoughts to those who are hurting.

I have Mrs. Salvo's beautiful daughter in my heart and prayers, praying hard for her at this time

Just adding more PS dust and healing vibes to dear Sophie. She remains in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers to Sophie (one of my favorite names btw-such a beautiful name!) and to your family.

HUGS to everyone who is hurting and prayers to all (even to those who didn't post in the thread).

And to the teachers out there-I know SO MANY of my good friends who were going to be teachers but quickly changed their minds. Their entire life they wanted to teach-until they realized what was happening and how much their hands were going to be tied. Some of them have gone on and now are student teaching-I'm sure in just a few years their enthusiasm will have been drained though-most of the people I know (happily) teaching now teach at charter schools after going overseas to teach and coming back with experience in order to do so.

Sophie and her families will be in my prayers.

Hi, sweet diamondseeker-

What a good idea for a thread! A non-exposé thread to support everyone! I'm on-board for this, and it's no surprise that Skippy is, too! Best wishes and prayers to mrs.salvo and her daughter and to all those Pricescopers who could use a hug!

My two year old Newfoundland, Griffin, is having a CAT-scan under anesthesia right now. I took him to the groomer's this morning and she called me to come get him immediately, saying he was urinating blood everywhere. An ultrasound revealed he had a very enlarged kidney and ureter, thus the CAT scan. The vets are trying to find out (very expensively) if the blockage is from infection or something more dire like cancer.

I just felt sad coming home and not being greeted by him at the picket fence!

Prayers for Sophie and for all who are in need.

Aww Deb. I hope everything goes well for Griffin. Keep us posted.

Deb, wishes for the best of health for darling Griffin. Your love will bring him through. Please keep us updated -- I'm praying for him & you.

Also for Sophie, my gosh what a hard thing to go through. Dusty hugs!

Thanks to diamondseeker for starting this thread. I only got part way through the previous thread before it was deleted, but it was enough for me to realize how many people in this community are hurting, and how much courage those people have to be able to carry on showing brave and cheerful faces to the world. All of you are in my thoughts.

For Sophie and her family, many prayers.

Deb, I'm so sorry that your fur baby is ill. I hope the vets will find out what is wrong with Griffin very quickly, and correct it. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Deb, I am so sorry about your dear pup; keeping Griffin in my prayers and thoughts. hugs please keep us posted.

Same here, Deb! Do keep us posted!

I too will be keeping Sophie in my thoughts. I missed the 24-hour thread so don't know what's going on, but for Sophie and Griffin and everyone else having problems, I will be fervently hoping for things to get better soon.

This. One of my friends who always wanted to teach is quitting after this school year. She last two years. She teaches high school English, and the district she is in doesn't allow teachers to assign homework to the kids. Since she can't assign homework, even outside reading, they can only read short stories or very short books, because she has to READ ALOUD TO THEM IN CLASS. These are not first-graders - these are 17-year-olds. She can't fail a student unless she has had three parent-teacher conferences about that student's performance - but none of the parents ever show up, so she can't ever fail anyone. Every single story she has is both hilarious and horrifying. I think the worst part of it all is that she does have many really intelligent students, but they are so held back by the system that the school is actively preventing them from reaching their full potential, instead of helping them. It makes me sick.

Deb, sending you and Griffin great big hugs and tons and tons of healing dust for Griffin!!

I read through the 24 hour thread last night, and my heart goes out to all the PSers struggling with difficult situations.

But I'm a little confused...doesn't having a thread to talk about a thread that was intended to be a place for people to post temporarily about whatever they wanted, with the understanding that it was going away, kind of defeat the point of that initial thread?

I'm with you, Steph. I was thinking the same thing all day. I know this is very well-intentioned but if something hard I've been going through that I posted about only in one place that was removed after a 24 hr period was brought up outside of that thread again I'd be bummed out.

Deb, I hope it is something treatable and he can go back to greeting you when you get home. I'm sorry to hear he is sick.

I missed yesterday's thread. Hugs and PS Dust to all of you who are having a difficult time.

Sending griffin dust and hugs

Griffin said he would be very happy to make this his own thread so that no on on Pricescope had to fight. He is good about things like that.

I visited him last night after he came of anesthesia. (He only had anesthesia because they-the veterinarians-had to do a CAT scan and as they-the veterinarians-explained-dogs don't stay still for CAT scans unless they are under anesthesia.) He was pretty sleepy and cuddly in the middle of the corridor where everyone was coming and going with other dogs. One woman said he made you want to lie on him. I didn't tell on him, but actually that's the way he is most of the time! Only maybe not quite as sleepy!

My primary vet (who is not affiliated with that hospital) had told me to sleep well last night because Griffin was going to. When they led him away, I was absolutely sure of it! He is always docile, but last night he was dazed and couldn't have cared less who he was with or where he was going. He just wanted to get to a place where they would let him sleep!

We are hoping the enlarged kidney is due to an infection. There would be no proof short of a biopsy, which we aren't about to do at this stage, that it isn't cancer. But his age (2) argues against cancer. So we are treating this (we...hah!) as an infection. A very, very, very expensive infection! When the doctor mentions redoing the ultrasound in two weeks, I flinch!!! That ultrasound costs around $500.00! And it's the least expensive test they do!!! But I'd do anything to make him well!

Thank you all for your dust, good wishes, and prayers!

Deb

I agree that absolutely nothing personal from that thread should be disclosed here. I wasn't even going to post about MrsS's daughter on PS, but since it was posted on that thread where hundreds of people probably saw it, I just figured more prayers would help rather than hurt. I don't think Haven will mind that I agreed with her that the educational system is broken since that is not really a secret!

Deb, so glad Griffin is doing well! As far as vet expenses go, I do not feel guilt over not doing everything they tell me they can potentially do. I weigh out human health care choices the same way. Those are profit making businesses and they will drain your bank account dry if you let them. You have to do what you feel is best, but honestly, we have had many unnecessary things recommended in the past. If my pet was doing just fine after an infection was treated, you can bet I wouldn't be doing a second ultrasound!

+2.

Maisie, I know your intentions were the very best, but so this thread isn't totally derailed, would you please consider having your two posts where someone's name was mentioned deleted? I think that is for the best since there were many people who shared concerns and it is best for none of them to be named here unless they decide to post here themselves.

a lot of dust for Sophie.

My intentions were good but I have done as you asked and asked the admins to remove my comments.

Maisie, thank you honey. I know the intentions were the best, from everyone, and I appreciate that very much. :wavey:

Wishing everyone the best...

{{{hugs}}} Maisie! And you, too, Gypsy!

I missed the 24 hour thread but big hugs to everyone who is going through a hard time.
