couldn't we trust anybody these days,not even the elderly?...
a member on a koi forum knew i had a spare microscope laying around so she send me a PM .we exchanged PMs as follows...


from her..do you still have that microscope? If so, how much would you want for it?

i replied...yes,i still have the AO microscope,it is in excellet condition. i need $200 + shipping,maybe like $25 for UPS ground?

from her...I can't pay you until the 25th but I'll be happy to pay you for it then. Do you have a paypal account? I can pay you that way or send you a check - whichever is easier.

i replied...(this was last Wednesday Feb 9) i will need your address and will try to ship by Friday and don't worry about the payment for now,just send me a check before the end of the month.

from her...Thanks so much, You're a dear. Let me know what the total payment will be, please. My address is as follows:

i replied...i will pack it up tonight and ship UPS tomorrow afternoon. i will PM you the tracking # and the total amount.

the next day (Thursday Feb 10) i PM her...the UPS ground shipping was $29.95 and the tracking # is...XXXX.let me know when it arrive (they say about 1 week) and i will PM you my address. the total comes to $229.95

from her...Thanks, I'll let you know when it arrives and will be glad to send you a check or Paypal on the 25th. Much appreciated!

anyway, i knew the scope arrived yesterday.i received a confirmation from UPS,so today i PM her asking...did you receive the microscope yet? so far she just ignored my PM...

the $230 bucks don't bother me,its her dishonesty that piss me off...

when i was dealing in rare coins i often send expensive coins to dealers whom i've never met.i never got screw out of a single dime,most of the coin business was done on trust just like the diamond business.

if my wife ever found out i will never hear the end... she told me not to send her the scope until she paid,but i said...if she screws me,she screws me,sometime you got to trust people,besides she's an elderly grandma type...oh well,lesson learnt...

I'd call her out on your Koi forum. Unless that's a big no no... I don't know koi, but do know how much you have invested in them... I am sorry she took advantage of you.

Maybe she thinks she has until the 25th to pay for it, and so she's not bothering to respond right away? Maybe you'll hear from her in the next day or two.

I know, I know, I'm an optimist and I might be grasping at straws. But I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I hope you weren't ripped off DF - you were being kind and don't deserve to be cheated.

when i purchase the 3ct diamond from GOG Jon sent the stone to my local appraiser's office for me to look at,then after we finished the Appraiser said...take it with ya i don't want this stone sitting in my office... ..so i took the stone with me. i call Jon as soon as i got home and told him that i had his diamond with me at home (think Jon wetted his pants ). i told Jon that i am not a theif i will return it if i decided not to purchase the stone.

the next day i got a call from his boss (Mama) guess she heard the story by now.. ..i told her not to worry. anyway,i decided to keep the stone so wired the money after 3 days playing with the stone.if i was a dishonest person i could of kept his diamond and then tell him to go jump off the Brooklyn Bridge.

You put your trust in her, and your terms were payment by a certain date. Until that date passes, your trust is still justified and there is no bad faith on her part.

Come back and tell us if she paid you on the 25th. I hope she does.

I got ripped off by an ebayer last week, and nearly fainted in surprise yesterday when I got an email to say sorry, I shouldn't have done that, let me make it right. There are more good folks than bad out there, here's hoping she's one of the good ones.

She said at the very beginning that she couldn't pay until the 25th and sounds like she was ok with you waiting to mail it until then, but you wanted to mail it off asap. I wouldn't have even posted anything until the 25th passes.

She hasn't done anything wrong yet, you said she had till the 25th and it's not even close yet. Some people don't use the internet as often as others and maybe she hasn't had time to let you know it arrived, especially since you used tracking, she probably figures you already know it's made it there.

Exactly. DF, I wouldn't panic until the 25th has come and gone without you getting paid. Perhaps your sub-conscious is giving you a poke and asking you why you sent someone something without them paying for it in advance. I definitely wouldn't make that mistake again, no matter how old and how trustworthy them "seem". Grandmas rip people off too.
