A close friend works with animal rescue and sent me this today. I usually wouldn't post this here but this really broke my heart and figured it wouldn't hurt to make a thread.

If you live in Ohio, there are 52 thoroughbred horses that need homes. Will go this Saturday for slaughter. Gentleman died and his son wants nothing to do with them. Most broodmares are broke and some are in foal weanling, yearlings, 2 yrs and 3 yrs old most are gelded. FREE and papered. Friend of the deceased is trying to find homes 440-463-4288 or 440-463-4288 Barnesville, OH. Please feel free to copy and paste this on your fb status or email to others.

thanks

Oh man, CB, I'd give ANYTHING ANYTHING to take a few! No room to keep them & can't afford them. What a darned tragedy -- what's the matter with that son, not bothering to find homes for them? He should go to slaughter with them.

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention Cherry! I am out of the US but I am spreading the word and doing what I can, I am praying we can save them from ending their lives in a slaughterhouse... :nono:

I'm in FL but I know some thoroughbred and QH folks so I'll spread the word around.

Hi,

Does your friend have a craigslist post or anything on a website?
I have family in NY state that love horses and were considering buying one, if I could get a little more info that would be great!

I know the info went out yesterday and yes the word is being spread far and wide. They want to make sure that the horses go to good homes and nothing shady, so I know that they are interviewing and trying to do what they can to ensure that they horses are being placed somewhere safe.

I don't know any specific details, but the phone numbers above all work and they will be able to provide you with additional info, you can also go to see the horses in person.

of course, it's real sad. This is happening so much to so many animals, especially with the high number of home foreclosures... so many animals are getting left behind. I hope that this situation ends well.

I checked to see if this had been posted at any high-traffic horse forums, and it has. And according to a few people who checked into it, all of the horses have found homes. :))

oh that's such great news! I'm so happy to hear that!! thanks for the update

I've heard that they have all found new homes. I follow Jillian Micheals on facebook, and she posted both about them needing homes, and later that they all had found them :)

If they could somehow get to Idaho :cheeky: But I have no place to keep one either ;(

These horses are fine. I read that friends of the family and the racing community has stepped forward for most of them. The remainder were placed with local rescues. Thank goodness!

This is great news that they have all been placed! People can do some wonderful things! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:
