I am asking everyone this question because I need to know if it is just me, if I am too anal, or if other people feel like me

Ok, so when you are done taking a bath or shower, do you dry yourself (and your feet) in the shower or step out onto the bathroom rug and dry yourself there? I know, I know, weird question, but here is the situation. We have a houseguest (well apartment guest, with only one bathroom) staying with us for the whole summer. Everytime I go to take a shower after her, the bathroom rug is completely soaked!!! It''s a little gross to me
23.gif
I personally dry myself in the shower and was under the impression that the point of bathroom rugs was to keep you from stepping on a cold floor when getting out of the shower, not to stand there and drip dry

What do you all think?

I step on the rug, then dry. The rug is usually wet, but not soaking.

*shrugs*

I mostly dry in the shower but then finish out of the shower. I was always under the impression the bathmat was to keep the water off the floor so you didn''t track it through the house...and to help keep you from slipping.

Me too. But mostly because my towl is not reachable from the shower. DH dries off in the shower. He can reach his towel, LOL.

I don't dry my feet in the shower. The inside of the tub is still wet and will get the whole towel wet. I usually do my arms, body above waist, and get my hair in a towel before stepping out. Then it sit on the outside of the tub and dry my legs and feet.

Maybe it her hair? does she have long hair?

I dry everything except my feet in the shower, then step out. Because if I dry one foot, I''d have to put it back down on the wet shower floor to dry the other one, thereby making it wet again. Does that make sense?

I agree it must be a bit annoying to have a soggy soaking bathmat, but I can''t think of a polite way to bring it up...

I dry my body off inside the shower. I step on the bathmat with my feet still wet though.

I mostly dry outside the shower, on the rug. I''ll only dry down to my ankles, or sort of the top of my feet. I have this really squeamish thing about bottoms of feet and how germy they are
37.gif
, so I''d never dry the bottoms of my feet with the same thing I dry my face, hair, and remainder of body with. I basically use the rug for that purpose - to absorb the water off the bottom of my feet.

Even completely doing my drying outside the shower though, it''s never even close to soaked. I don''t understand how anyone can have that much water on them to soak a rug. Maybe you could bring it up jokingly next time, try to go use the bathroom after they''re done, and maybe come out and say something along the lines of "wow, haha, what did you do? pour a cup of water on the rug?" i know it''s lame but it''s just an idea. just make sure it''s jokingly said, not acccusatory.

My hair sops up water like a sponge- it''s long, it''s thick, it''s curly- and even though I squeeze it dry in the shower for like five minutes, it''ll still soak the bathmat. I step out of the shower with my hair flipped forward so it drips on the mat, not me. Which I''m sure looks freaking weird but it works.

So, though I dry myself in the shower, I do soak the bathmat. If your guest has long hair, it could definitely be the reason she''s making a big damp mess.

I have 2 rugs: a "fancy" one, and a little towel-type bathmat.

I dry inside the shower, just quickly to get rid of excess water. Then I step out onto the bathmat and do a full dry-down.

The bathmat then is hung over the side of the tub, and the "fancy" rug is still dry.

OP: I was brought up in a house where it was considered rude to leave a sopping wet rug on the floor. The options were, to dry off completely in the shower, or take the wet rug up and hang it over the tub. I prefer option 3, which leaves me the fancy rug down, and the wet one on the tub!

LS

ETA: I think this is the same kind of question as "do you put the toilet paper so it rolls from the top of the bottom". Everybody is SO different!

I dry inside the shower/tub. I can't stand a soaking wet rug...a little wet is fine but not dripping wet. As for the feet, I dry one and step out..then dry the other before stepping on the rug

i also step onto the rug and dry myself there, i can''t stand the idea of using my towel to dry my feet before i use it to dry the rest of my body, the rug is never soaking tho

Dry in the shower. I trained

FI to do it as well.. we had the SAME problem with a soaking wet bath rug after he showered or his former roomate. I think it''s gross! We also have a bath mat now too.. that way it gets all of the stuff before it gets to the rug (which I find repulsive in the first place).

You are NOT alone!

Is it weird that I don''t dry my feet?? I dry above the waist in the shower, step out on the rug, dry below the waist, flip my hair up in a towel and expect the rug to catch the rest.

We use a bathmat towel over the rug, then let that dry on the side of the separate tub. That might work for you too.

I dry my hair and upper body inside the shower, and then dry the rest outside.

Usually mostly try to dry everything in the shower, but my feet do still stay a little wet so I step out and finish drying everything off out there.

I dry as much as possible in the shower, and then step out to finish drying.

FI steps out dripping wet and it drives me crazy.

yep yep... this i do too!

I dry everything in the shower. Dry one foot, straddle the tub, dry the other foot, step out completely. It''s a quirky little habit I''ve developed I think, but I hate a wet bathmat.

I''m actually not a fan of bathroom rugs. I am okay with them by the sink/mirror area to keep your feet warm while you do your hair and makeup, but not near the shower or toilet where they can fill up with damp germs.

I use a bath mat, which is basically a small thick towel to stand on. I have long hair, so I squeeze it out in the shower and wrap it up in a towel. I also blot most of my body (above the knees) mostly dry before I step out. (I do not fully dry my skin because I like to apply body lotion to damp skin so it moisturizes better.) I then step out and dry my feet and lower legs one at a time while standing on the bathmat. Then the bathmat goes over the bar on the shower door to dry.

My in-laws have rugs near the shower, but the bath mat goes down on top of the rug when you shower to keep the rug dry. The bath mat is easily washable with the towels, while rugs are harder to clean.

I dry in the shower. I cannot handle a wet bathmat, either. I don''t think it''s there to help me dry--it''s there to prevent me from breaking my neck on our super-slick tile floor if there''s any water on it.

Ditto. I can't stand it when DH takes a shower right before I do . . . he's an out-of-the-tub dryer and he leaves the rug SOAKING wet EVERY time!!!

ETA: Atroop, this is another thing we have in common besides our birthday! LOL!

I put my hair up in a towel, dry myself off except my feet and get out to do my feet there. We used to use the pretty rugs in the bathroom but it''s so small, and with the kids..it just got to be a pain. We just put a towel down on the floor in front of the tub, and then I toss it over the rod to dry after, and it''s usually just a little damp is all.

hisdiamondgirl- I have a very specific drying off routine. I also cannot stand when my FI steps out of the shower before drying his feet. I HATE wet floors! I think it's so gross!

I dry off completely in the shower, and do my legs/feet last. I balance on one leg while drying the other leg, then the foot, then I step out of the shower, onto the bath mat with my dry foot, and balance on that side while doing the other leg/foot. I'm very very anal with this. I don't like the thought of anything on the floor sticking to my wet feet.

Maybe we are just crazy???lol

ETA: I just read the rest of the posts and see that there are more people that do this too!!

Kay- I am also not a fan of bathroom rugs. The only reason we have one is because FI likes them and asked if we could have one. Otherwise I would not have anything on the floor in the BR. Even though I clean like crazy, I still feel like they are dirty and full of hair and nastiness.

This is fascinating!!!!!!!!!!

DF dries himself in the shower as he reckons he stays warmer. It makes his towels really wet though and they get smelly quickly, so I wash them more often than mine (ok, I am a bit of a clean freak, I only use a towel, like twice in a row, anyhoo)

I step out of the shower, flip my hair over and tie it up in a turban and then get another towel to dry the rest of me, finishing with my cute little tooshie

9.gif

ETA - ok, that last part is not entirely true, anyone who has been in my bathroom can attest to the fact that my tooshie is not little

I always dry my feet and head off before stepping out onto the rug. My husband, on the other hand, gets completely out of the shower before drying himself off and it drives me nuts! I always try to take shower ahead of him so I don''t have to step out onto a wet rug!!!

If that is the worst thing your guest does be thankful.

I'd keep it in perspective (you must like her or she would not be a guest) and say nothing.

Remember the old saying . . . Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Edit: I just reread your post - A WHOLE SUMMER? -

You are nuts.
Houseguests are like fish - After two days they start to stink.

I was an on the rug dryer until husband complained that the rug stayed wet forever so now I dry off in the shower.

I thought about this while I pressed submit.

What do you do after a bath? You cannot dry your legs and feet while the water is draining. You can''t stand there freezing while you wait for the water to drain.

Just a thought.
