Wedding quick program citation question!

we''re having five songs played during our ceremony including the pro/recessional. some are live, some are recorded. some have known composers, some don''t. how would you ''cite'' these songs in the program?

"this road" - by jars of clay, but a special version is being arranged/recorded by a friend.
''hymn'' - jars of clay. (no brainer)
''greensleeves'' - no known composer, played by church organist
''be thou my vision'' - no known composer, played by a friend
''ode to joy'' - Beethoven, played by organist.


right now i have it like this:
.......''this road'' recorded by john smith
.......''hymn'' by jars of clay
.......''Greensleeves''
.......''be thou my vision''
.......''ode to joy'' by beethoven

does this work? or does it look funny that i am citing some songs but not others?

Hi Mimzy, looks like you''ve picked some lovely music-- what a great variety! I think it''s fine as is, but if you wanted to do a little more formal looking you could try citing Jars of Clay for the first one and then saying, "Arranged and Recorded by John Smith." For Greensleeves you could say "Traditional English Folk Song," and for Be Thou My Vision "Ancient Irish Hymn." The actual tune for Be Thou My Vision is called "Slane."
Hope that helps some. Like I said, though, you don''t really need to add anything. I''m so excited for you-- I can tell it''s going to be great!

Your ceremony is so personal, very nice. I would drop the "by" when listing the composer, and add "performed by friend's name" after. Sorry if being redundant and you are already putting that in, but it will be nice for everyone to know who is performing. If the church person is unknown, just leave blank?

You might consult with your friend or the organist re the credits for "Be Thou My Vision" and "Greensleeves." It might be appropriate to site the arranger (as in "traditional, arr. by").

thanks leggo! i hadn''t thought of putting a cit. like "traditional folk song", that''s a really good idea. i''ll play around with it and see if i can make that fit!

. we are really excited and happy about what we picked out and can''t wait to hear all of them on our wedding day. and yeah, i wasn''t sure about putting "performed by" for the BTMV song because her name will be listed in the program, but i wanted to put it for the processional song because it''ll just be a recording so no one would know it was him....i''m still not sure what''s best!

finding out the arranger is a good alterntive for the composer name....i''ll have to see if i can find out (i''ve never met/talked to the organist).
