I'm a little confused by one of the posters above. Sometimes I wear a cross or crucifix because I am a Christian and it represents my personal beliefs. We are lucky to like in a country where you can show what your personal beliefs are. I would not wear a Star of David or the name of Allah because I am not Jewish or a Muslim--but perhaps I should buy one or the other of these and then wear them under hidden under my clothing-- because----?
Not meaning to be offensive, or threadjack but I don't get it. Why wear a cross unless you're a Christian? Of course, you have a perfect right to do so, but it seems strange--and plenty of Christians wear crosses, I can't think that people in whatever area of the country would not be used to seeing them and that they would have some reason to assume that all the Christians (majority in this country) are religious fanatics?

Perhaps a little more background knowledge would help clear up your confusion. Mayerling lives in the UK, where parts of the country still suffer from sectarian divisions and issues, including occasional violence, associated with religious bigotry. Wearing a cross is more commonly associated with one side of the religious divide than the other and could cause tension in some places. I don't know where abouts she is, but there are areas in Britain where I wouldn't want to display any obvious symbol of any religion. Of course, Mayerling may have an entirely different reason for her preference.
