do you wear it under your blouse or over it?

:errrr: my wife always hide it under her blouse...

Over of course! It is so pretty, why would I want to hide it? This, of course, excludes tops that are just high/low enough to not allow the pendant to lay over it, so it slips under on its own...

I tend to wear pendants more where the neckline is showing, so v-neck or open neck shirt/blouses.
But definitely - show it off - not under the blouse.

I would wear it so it can be seen against skin at the neckline of what I'm wearing. I don't like pendants over clothes (it reminds me of some of the more horrible ladies to taught me at school).

I wear a cross but, unless I'm wearing something low-cut, I always have it under my shirt to avoid questions and giving people the wrong impression. Where I live, wearing a cross immediately makes people think I'm a religious fanatic...

It depends on the pendant style & my mood. Never under the blouse, no point in that, but with an open neck, v-neck or lower cut top I wear one so it shows. If the pendants are large enough I have also worn them over turtlenecks so they hang about an inch below the collar seam.

Ha! This, exactly, only it was taking me a sec to put my finger on the association.

The only time I'll wear a pendant deliberately pulled out of the neckline and over is if we're talking a long chain, which by my lights is 30" or so, and a big pendant - think 10 or 15 carats. With my diamond? I wear it on a 20" chain, and that leaves it above or level with the collar on most of my shirts ....

I wear my pendants so that they can be seen, if I bother to wear them at all. (and I do wear them a lot, I have a lot of them).

I'm a little confused by one of the posters above. Sometimes I wear a cross or crucifix because I am a Christian and it represents my personal beliefs. We are lucky to like in a country where you can show what your personal beliefs are. I would not wear a Star of David or the name of Allah because I am not Jewish or a Muslim--but perhaps I should buy one or the other of these and then wear them under hidden under my clothing-- because----?

Not meaning to be offensive, or threadjack but I don't get it. Why wear a cross unless you're a Christian? Of course, you have a perfect right to do so, but it seems strange--and plenty of Christians wear crosses, I can't think that people in whatever area of the country would not be used to seeing them and that they would have some reason to assume that all the Christians (majority in this country) are religious fanatics?

 What are you talking about? Where did mayerling say she wasn't Christian? And FYI, not everyone on PS lives in the US. Pretty sure mayerling is in the UK.

As for me, I wear my diamond pendant (it has an 18" chain) when I'm wearing something with an open neckline. I also don't like pendants over clothes unless they're long and/or chunky. And just to clarify, I would never ever wear a pendant over a turtleneck or a shirt with a high coller-I hate that look!

Perhaps a little more background knowledge would help clear up your confusion. Mayerling lives in the UK, where parts of the country still suffer from sectarian divisions and issues, including occasional violence, associated with religious bigotry. Wearing a cross is more commonly associated with one side of the religious divide than the other and could cause tension in some places. I don't know where abouts she is, but there are areas in Britain where I wouldn't want to display any obvious symbol of any religion. Of course, Mayerling may have an entirely different reason for her preference.

I wear pendants all the time. For me it depends on the shirt, the activities I'll be participating in etc. I generally wear my pendants where they can be seen, but at one of my jobs I have to hide my pendant if I want it on b/c we aren't supposed to wear jewelry for sanitation purposes as well as to keep ourselves safe (waitress). I generally don't take my cross off unless it's to wear another pendant (which isn't as often), so I hide it under my shirt for that, or when I'm riding on the ATV's etc.

I never noticed when I was growing up that I had my pendant always tucked in my shirts. Now, I'll opt for shorter chain because most of my shirts don't have low enough necklines. I do have a longer chain for my turtleneck days

Send it to me...I'll wear it on the outside where it belongs :Up_to_something: !

(maybe since you gave it to her she is trying to wear it next to her heart...how mushy :cheeky: )

I guess I'm strange because I almost never wear blouses. I'm a very casual dresser most of the time, so that means tshirts. And if I wear a pendant with a shirt, I always wear it on top of the shirt. If I were to wear a blouse, I would unbutton it enough so that the pendant would show.

I have to hide my pendant because it's not authorized for wear in uniform, but as soon as I get to where I can wear civvies again the whole world will get to see it because it won't be hidden under anything. I had it made to wear and have it be seen, not hidden away.

I wear a pendant all the time. I usually wear a shirt that shows it off, but if I'm wearing a tshirt or a hoodie, I leave it underneath. I think it looks kind of strange to have a diamond pendant on top of a painted up tshirt.

I almost never wear blouses, either. I wear button down polo type shirts or just shirts with rounded necklines, so it depends how much my pendants will show. I prefer an 18" chain and usually wear a little cross but I am about to have a diamond pendant made with a family stone and will alternate these. This thread makes me thankful I live where I can wear a cross with no concern for safety.

Like Laurie, I'll only wear a pendant if my blouse is low enough to show it off or I'll wear it over a turtleneck top. But I'm usually in casual wear and don't wear a pendant that often.

This thread just made me realise that I haven't worn a pendant in months. I store them in separate boxes in my safe, apart from my other jewelry, so they're never handy when I'm getting ready to leave the house.

I only have two, and I love them both. One was a gift from DH for quitting smoking and the other was a graduation gift. I need to wear them! DF, I'm doing worse than hiding them under clothes, I'm hiding them in a locked box!

How awful.
I would be interested to look this up though I do not wish to threadjack. Where in Britain are you talking about? Northern Ireland comes to mind, for religious tension, though I do not know about this in detail.
To an American it is startling to hear that wearing any symbol of religion can be regarded as marking someone as a 'religious fanatic' and I guess we don't think enough that other places can be very different, which is sad.

It really is awful. I wasn't aware of it particularly where I grew up, but I was shocked by how bad it can get in the West of Scotland, particularly parts of Glasgow when I lived there. I lived in some of the poorest, most deprived and downright scary parts of Glasgow, where sectarianism was rife. A lot of the focus is around football (soccer). A certain team is associated with one religion, a rival team with the other. Things are improving, but it's still quite shocking at times. Parades of religious groups (or groups associated strongly with a particular faith, if not actually faith groups) are still common in parts of Scotland. Most times, they pass off peacefully, other times there's trouble.

As I said, that may not be what Mayerling was thinking of at all - I don't want to speak for her, but the attitudes towards certain religious symbolism here can be quite challenging (and to the observer, hugely confusing).

If I have on a crew neck I wear it over my shirt. I generally like V necks though so they generally are visible anyway.

Thanks for explaining.
This is very sad.

It is sad. Every time I think it's getting better, there is another story in the papers that makes me realise it's still going on. So, so sad.

I only wear my pendant when I know it can be seen as the chain is short. I cannot fit it over a blouse or turtleneck.
