Just took J for her 2 yr check-up.
She''s doing great.
Growing and gaining weight within her curve.

My baby is growing up...
they did the height and weight measurement w/ the standing ones.
When we asked her to stand up straight for the height measurement, she tried to cheat and tiptoed

height: 34 inches
weight: 24 lbs

lili haha, it''s pretty funny with kids! i swear sometimes when B is trying to negotiate with me, i just want to laugh, but i can''t let him know that he''s getting me. that is hilarious that she tiptoed to be a bit taller, haha!!!

B is doing great, counting, alphabets, he''s got it all down, and he''s been getting WAY better at writing them too. i can''t believe my first baby is so grown up now. and my second baby is just the happiest little kid, i swear. he got his 4 month shots today and he cried for 1 second then the nurse was baby talking to him and he totally loved it, ''talked'' right back and laughed. he cracks me up. then B was telling everyone that "my baby brother has an ouchie, i got the sticker because he''s too little for them." kids i tell ya!! then we went for a little shopping and i spent TOO MUCH money!! thank goodness DH understands all my little addictions.

MG - awww, I love the curls.

Lili - I tried asking his ophthamologist about how long he'll need glasses, or even if he could tell me if it was likely that he'd need them forever, but he just wouldn't answer the question at all. We need to schedule a follow-up appointment in another two months or so, and it will be with someone new (switching insurance in May and the new insurance doesn't cover the old guy) and maybe I'll get a better answer then. And thanks!

I asked my FIL the other night if he'd call the county on me if I put bitter apple on G's glasses, as it works with dogs and chewing. He said that they tried that solution to get my SIL to stop sucking on her thumb, but then she liked the way that it tasted and drank the whole bottle behind their back, and so they had to take her to the ER. And I thought I had a good idea, for a moment at least!

Oh! We found a veggie that G likes. He will eat salsa. Like, a couple servings of salsa at a time. That counts as a veggie, right?

blen, I totally would count salsa as a veggie. Jake loves it too. It cracks me up b/c every now and then we get a fairly spicy blend and he still chows on it.

lili, our J''s are the same height! my guy may even be a touch shorter but he was freaking out at his appt. so the nurse wasn''t able to get his height as exact as if he were still. If the height tale holds true, he''ll end up being only 5''7".

puffy-B is smartie. you''ll be surprised how much faster the second seems to do most things compared to your first.

hubby and I just got home from a mini road trip. he had to do some work out of town and I was able to leave the kids with my parents and tag along with him. It was so nice to just have some one on one time with him and we really do need to make a point of doing it more often. not much else going on with us. jake seems to be all healed up from his fall and was even back on a slide at mommies day out on friday. He is finally really communicating and speaking in coherent sentences now which is just so much fun.

D had his first major tantrum last night after I wouldn''t let him watch more videos of himself. I can''t believe it lasted 25 minutes! I know it''s normal but boy was it brutal. DH and I actually laughed for a moment because we couldn''t believe how long he was going. I''m sure he was super tired after. He slept 13 hours last night so that made up for it.

I didn''t get an u/s last Friday but we should find out soon! I have an u/s on Wednesday and will be getting one every two weeks to keep an eye on my cervical length. I have to decide if I want to get weekly progesterone shots. It''s such a difficult decision!

snlee: yikes 25 mins? How did you handle it? Ignore...do your own thing? I still haven't figured out the "right" way to handle the marathon tantrum. Usually it starts out over something silly but then escalates into tantrum and I try to ignore until she calms down, but it is hard!! How are you feeling?

C is talking more, and mimicking more. She LOVES to do things herself and gets made when it's not possible. She has her first b'day party invite this wkend (right in the middle of her nap of course) which is at a zoo, so we're excited!
Oh and any tips on toddler cutlery--is there a particular kind/brand that's best for assisting with dexterity? I think we need to move on to the metal ones that can actually pick things up.

Meanwhile my mom is hassling me on Dora (the cartoon

) teaching C to say "oh man" and how it sounds bad. I told her this is totally normal and a phase and not a sign of her vocabulary to come! I distinctly remember my sister saying "hey man" which she picked up from the A-Team back in the day, but my mom seems to have forgotten that!

Just be careful. We were sitting at our local hole in the wall breakfast diner. A very large man walked in and Amelia peered around me to look at him. She then said, "Whoaaaaaa, MAN!" I was mortified, even though I know she was trying to say whoa (oh), then man as a separate word to point out man. But she''s seen Dora and it just came out VERY animated.

The worst part is i can''t help but react to him (which is exactly why he repeats it each time we go, so i only have myself to blame)

Puffy--sounds like the boys are doing great as usual. If you are looking for something for B to move onto (since he''s got everything else down pat for his age)--or maybe he has done this already --- you can try mastering all the letter sounds. Co is like B and has always been letter/number obsessed. Since he''s known his alphabet for almost a year now, we recently moved on to the sounds (and the sounds are more important for reading). I just made up a song for him, no actual teaching or anything (he thinks it''s hilarious and i have to sing over and over again before bed) "A goes Ahh, B goes Baa, etc" and he had them down pat in a few days.

Nothing much going on with me besides work & house. The house is painted, flooring is about 1/2 installed and deck went on in the back yard. But still sooo much to do.
I am feeling really yucky lately which doesn''t help. I feel queasy on and off and just soooo tired.
Charlie is leaving early thursday morning for his trip and won''t be back till late wednesday of next week. I am dreading it, but will survive i am sure. I just think of all the 8 mos preggo single moms with toddlers that do it every day and can''t whine too much about a week alone.

things are pretty much the same with me, surviving the M/S and counting the days til it ends. thank goodness for my hubby who has picked up every inch of slack in this house and is ok with me spending every waking moment on the couch. and thanks also to my nanny who does all the cooking as well. and last but not least thank goodness for having a slow couple of weeks at work so that i can take catnaps every now and then.

Hopefully we''ll get to go to Disneyland soon. We are leaving it up to SIL since she''ll take us in. It''ll be fun when we go. M recognizes Mickey (but she just calls him Mouse), Woody, Buzz and Wall-E.
M is doing fine with her bed, still need us to lie down with her, but we are fine with that.
J is doing much better with napping in his PnP; he is no longer waking up every time I put him down. So I am happy. He still wake up once at 4-5 am for feeding, that''s not too bad.
LOL on B negotiating. He sounds like our 5 yrs old nephew. SIL says that he questions why he has to do certain things when SIL and BIL don''t.

Hey, I thought SpongeBob was bad, but that little girl saved her friend with the Heimlich maneuver that she learned from that show.
Utensils - we got these Gerber metal spoon and fork set for M a long time ago, but it was hard for M to poke with the fork. Right now M is using these Gerber forks, and it''s pretty easy for her to pick up food with these. If you want a spoon, fork and knife, there''s this Gerber set with the same fork.

How is your little J?

Nothing really going on with us. M is getting better at eating by herself. She is good with fork, but not very good with spoon. It actually got better once I let her use Chinese spoon instead of a regular spoon. She can scoop better and easier with the Chinese spoon; I think it''s because it''s deeper and hold things better. We got her these kid size one at an Asian market. It''s great. Food are in her mouth instead of the table. She can drink soup and eat cereal with soymilk with it.

QT, funny, D is the opposite. Pretty good with the spoon but not with the fork. Isn''t it so much easier when they can feed themselves!? I should try a Chinese spoon. Need to buy a small one.

For those interested, here''s the pro and cons of the shot. Let me know your thoughts. What would you do?

There are no major side effects/known harm to mom or baby with the 17P shots but long term is unknown - research hasn''t been done since it''s relatively new. They''ve done research up until a child is 5 (according to LIA), that''s it. That fact combined with not knowing if there''s really a benefit of me taking the drug is what''s holding me back from saying 100% yes.

On the other hand, this shot potentially has a 20% chance of helping prevent PTL. In the study 55% of the women getting placebo had PTL and only 36% who got 17P. The group benefiting the most though are women who delivered at or before 34 weeks. I delivered at 36 weeks but had contractions starting at 28 weeks. I have a 30-50% chance of having PTL again and a 30-50% chance of delivering early. If either one happens again, usually it happens a little earlier. The shots could prevent me from having PTL, bedrest, etc, so I''m strongly considering it.

I know with any drug there''s a risk. Usually the benefit outweighs the risks so you take it. This is a hard decision for me because I don''t know IF there''s even a benefit.

Speaking of doing things, my nanny taught my unco kid how to do somersaults on her own. So she can barely jump, still can''t walk up and down stairs well on her own, but she''s somersaulting around the room as happy as Larry.

snlee, I read, reread, and reread your post on the shots again. And I''m still stumped as to what I would do. I''m leaning a bit toward taking the shots? That''s a tough one for sure.


Good day around here. As I said, somersaults for the kid, and she ate a pork chop and an orange for lunch. You have no idea how happy it makes me that the kid eats now. I''m trying to do more on the veggie front, but we''ll get there slowly but surely. For now, with the exception of carrots, I still have to sneak them in. Yesterday''s giant bowl of pasta had carrots, green beans and zucchini, so this mama is happy about it being polished off!

We ran out of regular salsa, and so we tried hot habenero salsa last night. George was not so much a fan of that. Need to run out and buy some more regular salsa.

I just realized earlier today that we have new insurance as of this upcoming Saturday that mostly covers one pair of glasses per year. George''s new lenses are in, and so I think we''re going to just go with the one pair unless they start getting bad again, and then we''ll use the insurance to get a second good pair. George has been hilarious lately. DH was trying to teach him how to play fetch with the dogs. What he took out of the lesson was that if daddy throws the tennis ball, he needs to crawl after it really fast and then try to pick it up with his mouth. Oops. He''s also been mildly obsessed with slipping things into the diaper pail. We''ve found stacking cups and other toys in there, and today as I was trying to put away diaper laundry, he kept grabbing (clean!) diapers, opening the pail, and trying to stuff the clean diapers in.

What kind of discipline measures are age appropriate/effective for a tantruming 12 month old? He''s been throwing all out tantrums when we''re mean, unreasonable parents who do things like prevent him from playing with the knobs on the stove (do you guys have those stove guard things in your kitchens?), which he is clearly entitled to do whenever he damn well pleases. We''ve been doing our best to redirect, with mixed success, but I''ve been wondering if there are other methods that we should try.

Blen, at a young age, I just kept redirecting like crazy (while saying no.) I also used the finger wag and made no and "aae aae aae" a startling, kind of ugly sound. After awhile, all I had to do was the finger wag and she got my drift. But still, I often had to redirect and simply didn''t let her win, regardles of any tanties she threw (which fortunately, weren''t that many really).

Funny about the fetch! Btw, what kind of salsa do you buy? Been thinking of trying that.

Excellent, thanks. I was thinking of making my own pico de gallo, but out of a jar would be easier. I hate chopping.

No, you''re not missing anything in my opinion. I think babies can learn the meaning of no from a young age (or at least, that you don''t want them to do something), but not too much more than that. I didn''t start time outs until past the 18 month mark - closer to 2 years, I think. The tantrums also really only came much later and now are a potential constant threat. She''s only had one major meltdown, thank God.

Thanks TGal and Blen. I''m leaning torwards taking the shots too but still not 100%. I''ll think it over the next 2 weeks or so. Also, if my cervix gets shorter within the next 2 weeks, I wouldn''t have to make a decision. They don''t recommend the shots. I''d get a cerclage, which I''m not too thrilled about. The risks are scary and there''s only a 40-60% success rate for emergent cerclages.

Mmmmm...now you have me craving salsa. Blen, does George just eat it plain?

Been sick with little B. He got sick and better and sick again because of his cousin and I got sick from little B. I hope we all feel better before this Friday when we sail.

T seriously makes me laugh. First of all she HATES waking up early on school days. I try my best to get her to bed earlier and even tell her it is b/c she has school but somehow I always fail. So every morning she has school she will lay in child''s pose on my bed and tell me she is sleeping. I have to coax and usually bribe her to get her dressed. Her favorite bribe is gum. She loves it but usually swallows it fairly quickly. I make her show me every so often but obviously that doesn''t stop her. So I dropped her off at school and made her spit out her gum in the wrapper. It was a miracle she hadn''t swallowed it but obviously I didn''t want her to chew gum in school. We pulled up behind a car and she said "oh, there''s Issaac!" She knows all of the kid''s cars apparently. Haha. When I picked her up hours later she of course remembered me putting the gum by my gear shift so she wanted it. So I pealed it off the wrapper and she chewed it for over an hour! Of course she swallowed it when she was done instead of telling me like I told her to but progress not perfection.

TGal, one meltdown ain''t bad lady! Wanna trade kids? How cute she is doing somersaults! I haven''t showed T those yet. She can spin around 360 but has yet to stay on her feet. It''s pretty funny.

Blen, I was doing "contained" time-outs at that age. It is similar to the cage TGal uses. She HATED them. Seriously hated and was scared when I warned her. Usually she corrected her behavior to avoid the dreaded time-out "corner." I have never thought about giving her salsa! Brilliant. She actually likes spicy food.

sbde, the kid surprises me everyday. They are little sponges. Hope you feel better soon!

jas12, not sure if that will happen but I figure my 30th b-day, mother''s day and getting into school all adds up to something right?

We''ll see. I am pretty practical. Co sounds hysterical. T has yet to say anything embarrassing (that I can recall anyways). I am sure her time will come. Your photos are BEAUTIFUL! I know I commented on them but wanted to tell you again!

Janine, I think it is adorable when T says "oh man!" in context. We have metal forks/spoons but T rarely will use them. When I ask she will say "no thanks."

snlee, sorry for the tantrum. They are no fun for sure! Hope you figure out what to do regarding the shots.

Lili, J is so cute! So funny she tried to cheat.

curly, T had her first "quiet moment" at school today. Guess she kept grabbing toys from other kids. I like that the teachers will discipline. When I went to pick her up this little boy was hitting another girl in the head

The teachers were quick to jump in.

Jas, I totally doubted her intelligence at one time

Guess it is unfair b/c some of my friends use flash cards (I do not) so they are advance. I just let her be a kid. I am sure it all evens out in the end.

Dora is now affecting finaces. Took a video out for possible conference call diversion for C (which never had to resort to thank goodness) and just returned it a week late. My bad, but was only given it for 1 week and got SO busy at work. Now my late fees are $7!!

Hi mommies, for those of you who don''t check the pregnant thread -

Oh boy, I''m having another BOY!

DH and I are so excited! So cute to hear D say broder! I''m sure he''ll love having a little brother and I''m looking forward to having two boys!

The good news is my cervix is looking good. Transvaginal ultrasounds suck though and looks like I''ll be getting LOTS of them since they are more accurate than abdominal ultrasounds to get cervical lengths.

The bad news is that I have placenta previa. My placenta is covering my cervix. No sex for me. I was pretty disappointed to hear this news, as I really want to try to have another natural vaginal birth. It''s early so there is a chance that the placenta will move up as I get bigger. Keeping my fingers crossed. Just really bummed I have something else to worry about! And if the placenta doesn''t move up in the next few weeks, it''s another thing to consider as I''m thinking about whether or not to get the progesterone shots. Also, I have an anterior placenta so I''m not feeling the baby''s movements as strong. It was in the front during my first pregnancy too.

I''m sorry to hear about the other news though, I hope it moves--doesn''t that often happen sometimes? I don''t know much about it but I really hope it works itself out.

All in all, it''s good news though and now you don''t have to go buy a whole new nursery!

I hope the placenta moves up. I think that in the majority of cases they do get pulled up and out of the way by delivery time right?. So don''t worry until the final weeks!

Tgal--yay for somersults, pork chops and organges

Your kid is not uncoordinated. Trust me. Come hang out with Co. He''s hilariously clumsy.

Blen--haha, love the doggy behaviour. Co went thru a stage where he wanted to eat food off his tray with his mouth. I think he was imitating my MILs dog. Oy. I agree with Tgal, a firm "NO" and finger wag is what we used. With eye contact and a mean look on the face. Still works for me at this stage.

Tacori--well, *i * think you should get something special for all those things!

Charlie is off to the bush and Iam grouchy. I blame lack of sleep, pregnancy discomfort & spousal resentment

. For some reason Co was up at 5:30 yesterday and 6am this morning. Groan. and baby #2 has injured my abdomen. He/she has been in the same position for a couple months now and so all the kicks/punches are in the same spot and i even have a bit of visible discoloration (bruising i guess) where the tenderness is. Good news is he/she is in position for labor. Head is way down in pelvis and my uterus is tight so middie said that''s one less thing for my body to do (Co was super high still at 42 weeks & didn''t drop till i was about 4 cm) so i am hoping that means a quicker labor this time!

My mom stopped in last night with clothing for the new baby (%40 off sale at the gap makes a woman weak) All boy stuff. She said "this is for Max"! Okay, i didn''t know *he* was def. a HE, and i didn''t know he had a *name*. News to me

I guess that is her way of voicing her opinion. She''s nuts! I just humor her.

snlee CONGRATS on a boy!!! you''re going to love it and D is going to be such a good big brother!! as for placenta previa, i had it both times for my pregnancies at my 18 week scan, and by 22 weeks, it had moved up. hoping that it will happen for you as well.

question for you - have you felt any differently this time around vs. your last pregnancy? i''m trying to see if that will help predict gender in my case haha.

basically i''ve felt exactly the same time pregnancy as i did last time, which makes me think i''m also having another boy.

i guess i should pose this q to LIA as well as other moms of 2 kiddos.

if you have children of the same gender, were your pregnancies similar? conversely, if you have 2 different gender babies, were your pregnancies different?
