Apparently, "Prom" is now a complete metaphor for marriage. First, prom night became "the honeymoon," then the dinner/dance became the wedding reception -- ever more fancy and with limos de rigeur. Now, the guy actually has to propose to get a date!

It wouldn''t surprised me one bit if the "prom" ring materializes.
