Wow.
That's really something Kenny. I'm not sure why that caught me like it did, but...

You know what? I'm not sure I get it. Was I supposed to be shocked by the first screen?

Wow, very interesting!

I love it!

Deb--I think the purpose is to show the, ah, different concerns between people who use proper English, and those who don't.

Thanks, Haven. I see it clearly now. There are two different types of questions, although I think it is perfectly valid not to want to contract a venereal disease and to wish to understand exactly how it is transmitted! I actually do not think that it is the fool who asks a question about the transmission of disease!

I have to admit that I studied that screen for quite a long time and couldn't, for the life of me, understand what the point of it was, however! I truly hate the use of "u" for "you", but I see it far too often to find it shocking and in the context on kenny's thread title I just didn't get it!

OMG! That is so classic, Kenny, I love it!

I laughed out loud. :D

You make really good points about the validity of such questions. I agree.
But, I still find the comparison pretty funny.

I, too, hate the use of "u" for "you", it drives me mad. The only thing I hate more is "ima" for "I'm going to", but I don't see it that much outside of the informal writing my students submit. (Thank goodness!)

This is pretty unbelievable! I put it all together in one little jpg in case anyone wants to repost it. Spread the grammar love! (Hope this is okay, Kenny.)

I see it as a poignant example of how . . . guess what . . . People Vary!

Google knows what it's doing.

Kenny: very funny!!

In case anyone doesn't know this...

The bold part at the end of the questions is what GOOGLE has learned you are likely to be about to ask.

People who spell the word you using the letter u have asked those questions a zillion times.
People who phrase it "an individual" have asked those questions a zillion times.

Very telling of what I consider to be the dumbing down of society.

Deb

+ a million! Also use of 2 for "to." And to Kenny's comment on dumbing down of society. Scary future.

You have to watch what you infer from the data, kenny. It is always possible that the people in the first group already knew the answers to the questions posed by the people in the second group and, therefore, did not need to ask those questions.

PS-The use of, "How can an individual impact the course of history" as an example of good grammar really bothers me. I hate to see, "impact" used as a verb although I know that it is becoming common for it to be used as one. I think it is the lazy man's way around phrasing his ideas.

LOL! I don't know how to post a screen shot, but my "how can u" list ends with:

Mend a Broken Heart
Get Taller
Last Longer in Bed

I also did a "how can I" search and it came up with:

Lose Weight
Keep From Singing (???)
Put This Gently (HA!!!)

Good god--what have I been looking up that these are the things Goole thinks I want to know?!?

That's great Kenny! Really interesting!

I find THIS a great comparison too (although not grammar related)

Agreed.

Or maybe I'm just one step closer to the inevitable "You kids get off my lawn!" biddy I expect to become. :?: Nah.

The Users are dumber. On the whole. As a demographic. And, apparently, they're having no difficulty getting laid. That can't be good.

Have you guys seen "Idiocracy?"

That means they are going to take over the youniverse.
