Product Placements; where did the subtly go?

I understand that product placements are a given when watching almost anything on t.v. but I wonder where the subtly went?

Music videos now take long lingering shots of make-up brands, or electronic equipment seems to be more important than shots of the artist. Perhaps it is just me?

But what is not just me is the CRAZY product placement of the soft drink Dr. Pepper on the new 90210.

I was shocked when I saw the episode last week where the Dixon character works in the modern Peach Pit and there was a soda can dispenser in one corner of the room, Dr. Pepper card ads on each table and on the walls and there was a dispenser behind the counter. Every single shot had a Dr. Pepper drink and or logo. I'm watching an episode now - the one where Tori Spelling makes an appearance (a very small one; she is teeny tiny!). Well, I had to roll my eyes when Dixon and his sister take a road trip and he asks her for a snack so she turns around in the car and opens a cooler on the back seat. Lo and behold it is stacked with Dr. Pepper, not neatly stacked, it was stuffed like a display case (which is probably a physical impossibility as you couldn't get the lid closed if it were displayed like that). So I get over that with a small groan and a rolling of the eyes. But then, ye Gods and little fishes, wait for it, ....when they stop the car Dixon asks something like - we must stock up on snacks and she/he says "well, Dr. Pepper is essential for any road trip". What the hell! What am I watching - a show or infomercial. Gag.

I agree; I notice it in movies often and it is a bit annoying.

I''ve been noticing in the past year or so that the placements have been getting more and more blatant. Zero subtlety, almost like they''re daring us to complain about how obvious they are.

Okay so I am watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 and there was just the most blatant All State product placement! Jon was like "I talked to my All State agent and he told me to check into some insurance stuff so I''m just gonna go to All State''s website and look at some stuff" and they showed the website! WTH?!
