I''m curious to hear about how your experience has been with your Prius.

Has there been any unexpected costs or repairs?

Is there anything you can''t do in the Prius(camping, long road trips)?

Is it uncomfortable in anyway?

Are you completely happy with it?

Hi,
I do not own a prius, but did drive one for a week while my car was being repaired (someone ran into the back of it!) and I thought it was fun to drive. The only annoying part is that it doesn''t have a regular key and if the battery was to go dead in the little black device, and you didn''t have a back up one, you possibly wouldn''t be able to get into the car and/or start it. Maybe I''m missing something obvious about that. I asked the rental guy and he said he never thought of that.

Have you test drove one? Their SUPER quiet!

My husband has a Prius and he loves it. He used to have a pretty long commute to work each day (1+ hour each way) and that''s why he got it. He loved the MPG it got (which is why he chose it), although it doesn''t get quite as much mileage per gallon as they claim. He''s had it for about 4 years or so now and it has a lot of miles on it. It''s still going strong though. When we''re going somewhere together, we pretty much always take his car. He loves finding reasons to drive it. As MC said, it''s very quiet. The only annoying thing about the Prius (I find) is that when you back up, the car beeps. It doesn''t seem to bother him though.

There''s a hidden metal key inside the black device. Clever, no? At least there is on the key for the 2006 model my DH just picked up on Tuesday. I''ve only driven it once around the block so can''t say anything so far other than he''s super excited about it, even though he traded in his sweet baby "mistress" Miata for it.

I just bought my third hybrid, a 2010 Honda Insight.

My first was a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid
My second was a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid.

I changed the 2004 for the 2006 becasuse it actually made financial sense.
Normally keeping a car two years will waste a lot of money.

I bought the 2004 for 19K before hybrids were hot.
Then the new body style came out with tons of extra safety features but the dealers were charging $2000 over sticker because gas prices went up.
Kelly Bluebook said my old 2004 was worth $21K in my zip code ($2000 more than I paid for it new).
Plus Uncle Sam was offering a $2100 tax credit to buy the 2006.
I made $4100 exchanging a two year old hybrid for a new and better one.

Unlike the Prius the back seat does not go down on the Honda Civic hybrid, but it does on the new Honda Insight.
I need a fold down back seat for my work now.
The 2006 hybrid will go to the SO.

I love Honda hybrids. The Prius looks funny to me.

I average over 60 MPG because I am a hypermiler.

Here is a pic of the dash of my Insight after driving 32.5 very good miles, and no they weren't downhill.
It was after the car was warmed up and I was driving 50 MPH on the freeway on flat ground on a warm day, all optimum MPG conditions.

We have a 2009 Prius (primarily DH''s) and we LOVE it! DH averages just under 60mpg (hovers right around 58mpg), mostly in-town driving. He drives like an old lady carrying a car full of eggs, but he really treats it like a video game - gotta beat my high score!

When I drive it, I just drive it the same way I drive my Explorer, and I usually get around 50mpg, so his "tricks" do work. I actually feel anxious when I drive it - too much pressure, lol, trying to eek out the highest mileage, watching the computer flash if I''m in gas mode or electric mode, listening to DH ask me (in thick french accent) when I arrive home, "Did you kill my mileage???"

All kidding aside, it''s a wonderful car. We have a 4 year old and the back comfortably fits kids or adults. In a pinch, we can toss a good size dog into the way back (cuz it''s like a hatchback), but that''s just for emergencies.

My mom LURVES her Prius. I have NEVER seen her so into a material object before. She has taken it on an 8 hour road trip before. No problems. I believe she has a 2007. I think the only thing that annoys my mom is the reverse camera thing just b/c she finds it distracting. It is very roomy and comfortable.

Erica, Your reply cracks me up because my husband is just like yours! He also "tricks" my 2007 Prius to go close to 55 mpg whereas I drive it normally and roughly and I get about 47 mpg. So here, you can tell your DH that he wins!

What package is your car? Ours is pacakge 6, and I wonder if that makes a difference?

Oh, yeah, the beeping! lol I forgot about that.

The one I rented had a touch screen for a/c and the radio. I found that really distracting and my fingerprints were all over the place.

Oh, okay. I didn''t try to open it. . .is there a manual lock on the door? I don''t remember seeing one!

I love hearing how happy people are with their Prius. That seems to be pretty common! Thanks for the replies!

My husband and I adore our Prius. She''s seen us through many seven-hour road trips, and has yet to let us down. The only quirk, of course, is the battery. Make sure to close your trunk properly, otherwise it will wear out over the course of a couple of days and you''ll be stranded without a specialist mechanic

I could not imagine driving any other car.

Nope, not so far, but we've only had it 7 months. The car itself is nearly four years old, though.

My father in-law has had his for almost four years, and the only problems he's had have been cosmetic and due to negligent driving

Is there anything you can't do in the Prius(camping, long road trips)?
Um.... no? It's just a car, like any other. I can't think of a single reason why you couldn't do the above things, or anything else, with it.

Is it uncomfortable in anyway?
No..... what are you thinking of, specifically?

Are you completely happy with it?
Yes!!!!!

ooo I bought mine new in 2006 and have had it ever since.. no problems at all.
I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with my car and I will probably never buy anything other than another Prius!
It''s sooo roomy and my parents are always asking to borrow it for their trips to IKEA.. cause the seats fold down and you can fit pretty much anything in there.
I can''t say enough good things about it!
